I once paid (!) for a writing workshop where the instructor wrinkled her nose at all genre fiction, anything with multiple POVs, and most everything I liked to read and write... then lamented that she wasn't sure she'd ever finish her novel. She was like a caricature of the tortured literary writer.
John ScalziI suspect most writers have that one authority figure who was snide about their writing, allowing that writer to be fueled by spite for years if not decades. My version was the creative writing prof who was dismissive about science fiction. I sent him a copy of Old Man's War when it was published.
