The main problem now though is that the US is weaker and antagonistic towards Canada so there is an additional angle to exploit while we are busy dealing with them / the mutual defense theoretically weakened

Entirely possible. I’d speculate that they are not promoting the foreign actor angle as not to spread any more fear than necessary. Like maybe some people know? Police chiefs? But not random person they interview for the story

I just fail to see how they wouldn’t take it seriously. That Toronto article came out the same day as the BBC one, detailing a sophisticated Telegram network recruiting minorities of all types (both in 🇬🇧/ 🇨🇦). RCMP has said this a few times.
