Illegal use of HOV lanes has real consequences. For example, buses exiting at Montlake end up stuck in gridlock before they can even reach the HOV exit. This issue is personal to me as I've probably lost days of my life sitting in a bus trapped at that exit.

Saying "this is what the people want" is exclusionary language that insults and ignores the renter majority in this city. It is maddening to hear "the people have spoken" about an entrenched, wealthy minority who have used every conceivable justification for opposing new housing.

I'm happy that Saint Jimothy will hang in City Hall.

Juarez says appeals don't hold up housing production. Currently, an appeal that began as a hearing examiner appeal is, quite literally, preventing the approval of a comprehensive plan that would allow modest density increases. But "I just don't believe that that's true." Uh, OK.

"I think there's a big difference between highways being built and nuclear power plants, and housing," Lin says in response to some of the examples raised in public comment. "We need to do everything we can to move forward to build the housing we need so everyone can live here and thrive."

Noting that housing opponents have compared housing for renters to nuclear power plants and highways today, Lin says, "I don't think housing and future residents are toxic waste or pollution that need to be studied for years and years and years on end. I believe housing is a human right." !!!

Seattle's critical comprehensive plan, a process that so far has taken 5 years, cost millions of dollars, hinges on whether every single person who has a spare $120 to file an appeal is satisfied that every potential, even marginal, impact is fully studied. Our City and region are going to continue to grow in population. We can’t stop that even if we wanted to (and that’s not what I want). So where are people going to live? Are they going to live in the City or are we going to cut down more forests and farmland to build suburban housing?
