This is a good point, actually. And it should remind us all that Donald Trump should already be spending the rest of his life in jail.

For comparison sake, let's look at the sentences handed down to black and brown folk - not for trying to steal an election and disenfranchising millions - but for voting wrongly in some way

It is not a good point. She was intentionally trying to fracture society.

Tina Peters participated actively in an insurrection from the plotting to the carrying out treasonous activities. She attacked arresting officers. Treason ≠ something to dismiss after 5 years. Trump & all January 6 participants that engaged in violence/breached the building committed treason.

And the meth dealer son who was pardoned? Why isn’t he still in jail? Oh right, rich daddy donated to tRump!

"........no actual harm." Immanuel Kant, writing on morals: to determine if an act is moral or immoral (ie should or shouldn't be done) one must ask what would occur if everyone engaged in that act. If it would result in no harm to anyone, the act is moral. Fucking with elections doesn't pass.

Non violent maybe, but I would argue helping an attempt to subvert an election is actually worse than attempted murder. Decades in prison wouldn't be unreasonable.

Nah, assaulting our democracy is worth a long and brutal punishment. If anything the initial sentence was far too lenient.

Fucking Nazis, regardless...😒

Shouldn't she at least pretend to show remorse? Instead, she's planning to start fcking with our elections again as soon as she can. So eager to get back to cheating.

Nobody got hurt except the cops that were kicked, so the rich guys here don't consider them to be real people. Out of touch!

This helps actually. Sometimes even us clearheaded folks need to sit down and think it through. Thanks George. And yeah, lock up Pedocon Don and throw away the key.

Is it a good point?

U

Did he typo "UNreasonable?"

Isn't she likely to do it again? She owes 🍊🤡💩 her freedom.

She's not Likely to do it again? Feels like maybe jail time is inappropriate, but a lifetime ban from civil service or being anywhere close to a f****** voting machine would be appropriate?

Ответ для microblap

I could have agreed with that version of clemency. Not liked, but agreed with

Ответ для microblap

I'm inclined to punish election related crimes extremely harshly. Of course, I'm also one who thinks politicians that lie blatantly and continually should be thrown in jail, somehow. We don't let doctors prescribe poison and stay a doctor. Why should politicians that push poison be different?

Enabling a coup for a guy that has killed 100s of thousands or more through cutting USAID is violent actually

I dunno, she looks like a recidivist TBH.

Reality Winner got 5 years in the federal penitentiary as a whistleblower who leaked documents related to actual Russian election interference. And served all 5 years! Tina actually committed the crime of election interference.

Hey I’m in Colorado, she did actual harm here. She made people distrust the voting system, tried to cheat, lied continuously and attempted to subvert justice. So maybe shut up man. Go be the republican you are somewhere else and leave us all alone.

What if they had succeeded in overturning the election? Would her role in a coup make a longer sentence more appropriate? Because attempted murder is attempted murder even if the gun jams. She tried.

Can we revisit the "likely to do it again" part of this statement?

Ответ для Box of Frogs

Now she's owned by Trump. And her next task is...?

5 years was not enough. It has to deter others from attempting such a crime. You wanna try it, spend the next 15yrs behind bars. It’s just more white people getting lesser sentences no matter how you slice it. She’ll get out and get a high paid gig on newsmax. That’s the problem. She’ll be rewarded!

Trump is a grifter who has lived his life one lawyer ahead of the law.

Ответ для Voted for Hubert and Kamala

And has been SPECTACULARLY SUCCESSFUL at that.

You are fucking stupid.

If you think 2 years is a reasonable sentence for a literal traitor you're a fucking idiot

But he won’t spend a day in jail. Why? He’s leader of a cult of idiots. Because of that he’s a billionaire 6x over. Also because of his ability to manipulate people’s greed, he has allies in the DoJ and federal government.

If you helped to install the malignant narcissist you helped to cause hundreds of thousands (e.g. the end of USAID) deaths. She should rot in jail and then in Hell.

Ответ для joelgrant

George helped to install the malignant narcissist. Here he is celebrating Trump’s 2015 win.

Maybe, but she would and will do it all over again. Of course she is headed to the White house for a very public facing job. Replacing Susie??

Just in time to get a couple of $Millions of tax payers $ from Trump J6 con slush fund?🤡

And if not for Merrick Garland and the big mistake of taking the documents case to Florida instead of trying it in DC and doing it as the FIRST TRIAL.

One of the biggest failures of our political and legal system is the fact that the people involved with January 6, especially the people who organized it, were never held accountable, and the people who were, were all pardoned. Complete failure.

peters is a run-of-the-mill annoying neighbor; trump is an annoying neighbor who blocks your driveway, cuts down your trees, steals your mail, calls the cops on you, and threatens to sue if you complain

Ответ для MovieEv

Peters is the neighbor who is the fascist henchwoman who attempts to carry out the destruction of our democracy, Trump is the fascist ringleader for whom she works to destroy our democracy—ftfy!

It depends upon your definition of hurting people. She tried to rig our election to help Trump get re-elected. Would she do it again? Probably. She has no remorse over trying to overthrow our election.

Amen to that! Peters should spend the rest of her days in prison for TREASON & FRAUD, so F*ck her! 🤬

Fleischmans a dumbass is what I just read

Peters unabashed plan to continue her maga deeds: bsky.app/profile/colo...

Colorado Newsline

UPDATED with a statement from Tina Peters and comments from her laywer, who says upon release Peters plans to work on "getting rid of these fraudulent voting machines."

And a Black man by the name of Willie Simmons was sentenced to life in prison for stealing $9 dollars.

NO ACTUAL HARM? Well, except for the harm to trust in our national election process...

That malevolent halfwit Peters is only 100% likely to repeat her felony, or worse.

FART DOUBLE FART AHAHAHA

Having watched peters’ sentencing hearing it’s clear the sentence is appropriate because she doesn’t think she did anything wrong and would absolutely do it again if given the chance

The actual fuck? Peters should be treated like a traitor. Because she is.

No it isn't a good point. Lose the R stuff or lose. She's a treasonous bitch who belongs in jail

How about someone who stole millions? Non violent crime. Slap on the wrist? Bitch tried to steal people's votes.

No. It isn't. She qualifies as one of those people. 5 years is a light sentence. The fact that people died and were left injured and with PTSD? Is she paying their medical bills? That fucking bitch can rot. You will never win as a Democrat. Go the fuck back to your party and clean it up.

Do the crime, do the time.

She’s planning on doing it again m.

It is not a good point. Just because no one was bleeding does not make this a lesser crime, IMHO. It is an attack on the foundations of democracy and will hurt a lot more people in a myriad of ways than even a random murder could.

I wonder where George Floyd sits on this scale.

So you don’t think she will do it again? Because she never has shown remorse

Crimes don't have to be violent to hurt a lot of people. Arguably, fraud and white collar crimes can be just as damaging. And those offenders often don't learn their lesson either. Cf. our president.

She gave away the source code for computerized voting systems to the very people who can't win elected office without cheating. She deserves LIFE without parole. She's a god damned spy.

But she served less than two years. For trying to steal an American election. Seems like a slap on the wrist for the offense.

The very people who tried to steal the 2020 election are actively involved in trying to steal future elections, more or less a working definition of recidivism.

Yes, but we do not have any justice in this country. We have an oligarchy with a bunch of billionaires.

Everyone who lied about the election being stolen has hurt people. Tina Peters will continue doing it, and should stay in jail.

No it isn’t you just think that because you are also a Republican

Criminal Justice 101: It’s not so much the severity of a punishment as the certainty of it that creates a deterrent effect. When Trump holds his next J6-style riot, there is no meaningful deterrent to keep the MAGA beast from unleashing its inner swine.

It may be a good point; I'll leave that for others to decide. But it's also a good point that the official holding the state's highest elected office shouldn't be second-guessing the conclusions reached by juries made up of the state's citizens except to provide relief to the wrongfully convicted.

Is she likely to do it again, though? And did it actually not cause harm? Trying to overturn an election is treason and trying to take away the vote from anyone is very serious, extremely harmful violation of basic human rights.

No actual harm! NO ACTUAL HARM! ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME!

And she will do it again

she helped create the conditions for the violent event known as january 6th. so stop with this “she’s a non violent criminal” shit

I get your point, but Tina Peters still belongs in jail.

You still voted Trump in 2024. We all know.

she did do harm, so no, this is NOT actually a good point, fake democrat.

Dunno. Part of the sentence is punishment, part of it to keep them from being in a position to repeat the offense, and part of it is as a deterrent to others. Her crime was potentially very harmful to others. Just because she's a refined old white lady shouldn't give her MORE special privilege.

Ответ для Jesk

Anyone remember, "don't do the crime if you can't do the time?" (Don't do it - no, no)🎶🎵

just to be clear, Peters spent one year and eight months, not five years, in prison for breaking federal election laws.

Disagree Crimes that falsely reduce trust in our system should be punished more severely than drug or violence. Addiction & emotional acts of violence cannot be deterred, cause they aren't rational. Fraud can be deterred as it uses the rational brain to calculate harm. It is sociopathic

she shows no contrition and will clearly do anything and everything she can to break election law again

Trying to undermine the foundations of our democracy is, in fact, really really bad and should be punished severely. So not really a good point.

White collar crime is more harmful than any other crime. White collar criminals have all the means to stay out of crime. They deserve harsher crimes than anyone else.

It's not a good point, actually.

Even if it was a harsh sentence (it's not), a Dem politician caving to a Trump pressure campaign to protect and reward a Trump ally is a traitor.

Not if you read what the judge had to say about her propensity to lie and deceive the American public.

F

BZZZZZZZZZZZZZ!- Not just wrong but ****ing Obtuse. Never Forget - Never Forgive - No Mercy- No Quarter - No Deals for any participant, facilitator or supporter of the Jan 6 domestic terrorist assault on our Capitol our Constitution & Constitutional Federal Republic & attempted insurrection.

Come on, George! Are you really doing a what-aboutism? It sounds like you’re saying that trump isn’t in jail so why should Peters be. No harm? You don’t think that attacking the very bedrock of American democracy is doing harm?

Tina Peters knew the law, knew she was breaking the law and attempted to follow DJT's conspiracy to overthrow the election. She was convicted in her home county by a jury of her peers. Clemency by Colorado's Democrat Governor in not popular here, and angers many, including me. Shame on him!

Disagree. The crime was intended to cause grave harm. Peters seems completely unrepentant and may very well participate in efforts to overturn future elections.

…I don’t know how he can say; “no actual harm”? Every action has consequences that impact a chain of events. Also, what about example this sets for future would be election interferes?

Ответ для fargozombie

…there was also ‘intent’ just because she was unsuccessful in overturning a fair and free election by cheating, she intended to overturn an election!

And this is why I hope you lose. We don't need more Republicans in office.

Spoken like the fascist Jew he's proud of being. A huge middle finger to his charred ancestors. Pathetic

Trump is definitely a repeat offender -a repeat fraudster and so many more serious crimes.

Thing is Trump is the kinda guy that has and will still punish Colorado

She tried to disenfranchise Colorado voters -- that hurts them. And she will continue trying to undermine the voting system. This was a betrayal of Colorado and Polis should resign.

Ответ для Laszlo Panaflex

Further, she will be feted by trump, who will claim her conviction was illegitimate and use it to continue to attack the voting system. How can you claim you will fight trump if you think this is no big deal?

There is truly NO DOUBT that Trump should have been locked up a long time ago. Musk too.

I guess if you try to overthrow our government but are unsuccessful then it's no harm, no foul? Seriously? It's no wonder we're in the trouble we're in with that kind of logic.

Like child rapists?

Would Tina do it again? In a heartbeat.

Did I miss the part where she demonstrated real remorse? Because when I tuned in, it appeared she had been given a green light to do it again. 🤷‍♀️

I question the "no harm", maybe no direct physical harm to someone, but it's insane to say trying to overthrow a democratic election & put in place a potential dictator equates to "no harm" Once an authoritarian dictatorship is in place then there will be plenty of harm, physical & political

How was there "no actual harm"?

No, it's not. How many people (many of them kids who starved to death) are now "unalive" because that SOB got back into power? 20 to life without parole would be a fair sentence, IMO.

Pretty sure denying people’s right to vote hurts them. I’d also bet she’d do it again if she thought she could get away with it.

Reasonable argument. I have no qualms with his point. Well, I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention this needs to apply to all prisoners in this boat.👍🏿

She tried to overthrow the government, dude.

She tried to change an election, she resisted arrest, she isn't sorry, she doesn't feel she did anything wrong and next time, she will cover her tracks better. Had her crime worked, many would be hurt. 🙄 One more reason you should stay a Republican and out of Democrat races, imo.

It's a good point, the USA has a 3rd world penal system, but it's for the people who make the laws and the judges who impose the sentences to decide that.

She’s a traitor and should be hanged bu the neck until dead, full stop.

Capitulation to a trump demand is never a good idea. I start to trust you then you make statements like this. She did cause harm to our democracy and the folks who live here in the USA.

No, there was actual harm. People were unalived during January 6th insurrection. During Trumps presidency there have been multiple occurrences of loss of life. There was actual harm. Lost jobs, lost lives, deportations, family separations.

Ответ для blueseasailor

Of course Tina Peters is blonde, blue eyed and caught the eye of the Rapist in Chief.

We don’t know about actual harm. She allowed someone to copy the hard drives of the election systems. This could allow them to interfere with, or to embed viruses or other malware that could throw future elections into doubt. Therefore, the harm could be great and justified the sentence she got.

Wrong. She is and will continue to be a MAGAt firebrand who will harm through her hatred, bigotry and lies. She still denies the 2020 election. A raging criminal traitor. Like all the J6 traitors.

Sen. Bob Menendez' crimes were non-violent. He's unlikely to do it again. Yet at 71, he was sentenced to 11 years in prison. Due to the nature of his crimes, 11 years seems fair – especially when considering that prison sentences for the convicted also serve to discourage others from criming.

Actually not a good point, because she tried to disenfranchise a lot of people and make the election process less trustworthy, which is a lot worse and more harmful than punching one person in the face.

You've completely lost me, George. For starters, she showed no remorse. She's likely to reoffend if given the chance, and deterrence is one reason the sentence needed to stay.

He ways your guy!!!

I think when the target is the American electorate and the foundations of democracy a long sentence is appropriate. The problem here, though, is that she’s the sole scapegoat which makes it *seem* like CO is treating her unfairly compared to the federally pardoned (and soon to be rich) Jan 6-ers.

i.be

She hurt people, and she will undoubtedly do it again.

Nah, it's a terrible point. "No actual harm"? Look around, man. What the hell.

This was not a victimless crime. Every US citizen was impacted by her attempt to subvert voting rights. If dems ever take over congress and the wh again, they must fully wipe MAGA out. There can be no place for those racist, nazis, etc., to hide. If we do not do this, it will just repeat itself.

Undermining democracy hurts people and she is definitely going to do it again.

Also, she *did* do actual harm to the country, which will still take yrs to recover, and she's likely to do it again, given the chance. If she actually *does* five yrs, that works, since she's already 70 y.o. and will by then be aged out of further civil-service eligibility.

Where is "five years" coming from? She'll have done like 18 months by June 1st.

I hope her inevitable return to criminal acts lands her back in jail faster. She showed no remorse. And btw, are the press going to hound her, or do we need TMZ to step into that void?

It’s a terrible point. The deliberate act of attempting to overturn a presidential election is a serious crime. If we are going to deter future attempts at subverting our constitution, there must be punishment that equates. She should have served a full sentence. This is a mockery of our laws.

I remember who showing zero remorse and that’s why she got the sentence she got. Trump is punishing Colorado for not releasing her. It’s sick.

If he was put away for his Epstein crimes against children, he might not have been able to rape and sexually abuse so many women.

This is unlikely an unpopular position for a progresssive democrat, but I do not think long prison sentences are useful for any other than violent criminals. There are other ways to prevent repetition, in this case not allowing her any public positions...and long prison sentences are not deterents.

Trump’s policies have killed millions, from abandoning our Kurdish allies, to lying about Covid, to abandoning the poor and dispossessed dependent upon Medicaid and USAID. He will be remembered as the most prolific mass murderer in US history. All those murders weigh heavily upon all of our souls.

It's a *shit point* George. She tried to overturn an election, the basic fundamental function of our Democracy. This is the right that we send men to die for in foreign wars.
