terrible misplaced modifier The Times has really gone downhill on copy editing

scratch that -- Wall St. Journal -- even worse

It’s the Wall Street Journal, but go on …

Lord have mercy.

I googled the excerpt, knowing full well it was wsj, the paper of record for the downtrodden 1%

It’s like she’s just one of the little people. It’s disgusting. 😆

Oh no! She sold her second home to someone who wants to buy it. How shall New York survive?

lol home girl is writing a whole fucking memoir based on this home; couldn’t possibly be wringing more money out of a place without actually living there

Look Jennifer is only "aspirationally retired" because this renovation is a lot of work. We've all been there

this text looks partially or entirely AI generated lol

Ahhhh-haha… holy shit. “I have to pay a tax?! On my BUSINESS?!” These fuckin’ people.

I looked at the Zillow post this morning. The inside has been stripped absolutely bare, no internal walls, no windows, no character, just a terrible characterless void. This is not the renovation of someone who is emotionally attached to their childhood home in any way.

Her 20 million dollar childhood home and she couldn’t even phone a tax lawyer about her 70k tax bill but asked AI. And this is an old rich diplomat who knows more lawyers than the Supreme Court.

Lady, who but you?

Ответ для Joe Friday I'm In Love

Like, I don't even think this lady is some kind of villain. She has been fortunate, but it doesn't seem like she came by her fortune through nefarious means. She inherited a very nice house and that's great for her, but we have to pay tax on our properties and this one is underutilized, so pay more.

Continuously amazed at the kind of things that journalists expect us to give a single fuck about

This kind of coverage was easier to understand back when I read the Times on paper. When I looked across the page to the ads for luxury goods and fancy boarding schools, I knew that if i wasn't shopping from those ads then I wasn't part of any "us" that the Times especially cared about.

Does no one have sympathy for these poor souls who must sit in their Parisienne mansion and choose between paying a small percentage in tax or giving up their inherited NYC mansion?

Marie Antoinette (Kirsten Dunst) BreakdownAlt: Marie Antoinette (Kirsten Dunst) Breakdownstatic.klipy.com

I went looking for an Alfred E. Neuman "What me worry?" image and the top results had a ton of AI slop :/ Anyway, Jennifer Landau-Carter as Alfred E. Neuman

She inherited it after the renovations were finished? 🤔 I think another comma would help out there....

Except you clearly understood just fine

So she was already going to sell the place, and she still plans to sell it? So nothing happened?

The rich are different from you can me. * as in, they don't even know they're rich because they don't have to think about it much.

So she is going to do what she was already going to do before the tax. This is relevant how exactly?

Ответ для Frank Walker

It’s not. But we should feel really sorry for her that she never before had to pay fair taxes

If this is the best sob story the WSJ can find then clearly Mamdani did the right thing.

Huh. My sibs and I are fixing up our parents' home to sell, too (with our own hands). We're fortunate, in that the house is worth so little that we've never actually had to worry about the taxes. #blessings

It sounds more convincing in the original French.

Oh no, they pushed the person who had always intended to sell her house into selling her house. This will be the end of NYC as we know it

Ответ для Worf's Aunt Masha from Babruysk

I think we should spend the rest of the day making fun of this person who was renovating to sell and is now renovating to sell even harder bc communism.

"But I'm not rich!" "But I support affordable housing!" "I support education!" "I'm not racist!" All of it comes from the same self-delusional mindset.

If I'm still holding onto my childhood home when I'm her age, please check me into therapy.
