Maybe that's good for the world. It is true that US let's best people to realize their full potential but maybe the brain drain is the thing that deprives the rest of the world from eventually unlocking its potential too? Like, if US stops brain drain these people will make RoW the better place?
They’re making statements like that while trying to win an AI race where a number of the top researchers in the Chinese labs are American university graduates. Wonder how that could be different with a better citizenship path for international students…
I mean, they genuinely believe that every Chinese PhD student is a spot taken away from a "more deserving" American PhD student so I can see how they work their way into this
Ah, yes, we definitely want to have a system where we spend a ton of $$ and time on training grad students so that they can take their skills back home.
I don’t think they don’t understand the US. They actively want to destroy it and these statements make sense to non-academics.
I feel like there are number of issues this admin is “addressing” just because they are exposed to UK right-wing media. Student visa abuse is a UK thing , it had never been a problem in the US.
