I worked with a recent college grad who was excited about having the 4th of July off. They wanted to know why. I explained it’s our Independence Day. “Independence from what”. They had no idea we were part of Britain. I sometimes think the human race is too dumb to survive.

like that's not even a stupidity thing, if your iq is over like, the minimum threshold for understanding what a country is as a concept, you're capable of learning the basic gist of American history. this is someone who didn't pay attention in history classes even a single time

It'd be one thing if this was an immigrant, or someone from an extremely poor background who wasn't in school for a while, but it's an indictment of the college that graduated her that they'd let her get a degree without knowing America used to be a British colony
