Oh they fucked up now. They've been cracking down on employees advocating for this kind of thing in a variety of disruptive ways and now they've shown the pressure works

they were fine with doing it until they got caught by a journalist.

Ответ для neilpunkdafunk

They certainly signed the contracts to do this.

Ответ для neilpunkdafunk

Interestingly though, they actually claimed that the journalists exposed some information that they weren't privileged to that informed their decision. I don't know how true it is, but the precedent may be useful for shaming companies into not supporting genocide while giving them a "save face".

Not even a month ago, I got into an argument with someone (who I promptly blocked) that came at me because I said MS was well aware of Israel’s abuse of their services. “There’s no way they can know that. They don’t have insight into customer tenants.” Oh, boy, do I have a lot to tell you…

Ответ для Infosecsie (ツンデレ)

did you happen to catch this person's name? Because I have a bridge to sell them...

Ответ для Infosecsie (ツンデレ)

Why in the hell wouldn’t they have insight into that

Hell yeah

Damn, wasn't expecting that

I'm mad at Microsoft rn for completely separate reasons 🤣 way less important

Palantir is like, “Don’t trip, we got you.”

rare microsoft w

Should have done it months ago,but it is a good first step

Did he decide they already did enough damage?

Microsoft congratulations for realizing that it’s wrong to hit Gaza and kill all those innocent people!

Good news!!

That's not exactly what it's written in the article. Only some got canceled, it has to be all. Microsoft is still helping this genocide.

2 years too late.

Now block ICE.

@wvon2024.bsky.social

Good to hear but I will be waiting for the fine print to surface. Microsoft is not known for having ethical priorities taking precedence over money. Maybe it is customer pressure but then they are not known for listening to their customers either.

P

This may somewhat explain Trump's latest post

Palantir will step right up and replace them.

8,000 terabytes of data – … swiftly moved the surveillance data out of the country. Sus. How do you swiftly move 8 petabytes? Does Azure have one of those data moving trucks like AWS?

Ответ для Clayton’s account

Bro, the average enterprise HDD can store up to 15 terabytes. That's about 534 HDDs, which occupy about 147 cm³ of space. That's about three large boxes which could be comfortably loaded into the back of a sedan or small pickup truck.

Continue to speak out against Israels War of Genocide and forced Famine on the Palestinian People. Government and corporations are feeling the Pressure to acknowledge The Genocide an famine

Hell yeah!

Yay

@theguardian.com broke the original story iirc

Ответ для Blue&Gold🌳🇺🇦

The Guardian link is right there in the OP

Ответ для Blue&Gold🌳🇺🇦

Yes. That's why it's the article linked to and quoted. Great work!

(Microsoft continues to probably do this on American civilians.)

Ответ для Mambo

Knowing the people in this country, they'd call it socialism if we try to defend one another from corporation interference.

Great! Can we get some of those self-regulating ethics flowing from surveillance companies domestically?

404 Media

Surveillance companies justify helping ICE and Trump with ‘democracy’ “It's not my job to play the ethics game because our elected officials will eventually figure that out. I have full faith in the American people to decide who to elect and what to vote on.” 🔗 www.404media.co/how-surveill...

Ответ для Jo

Interesting that tech surveillance company ethics is being scrutinised by ICJ.

The UN finally called the genocide a genocide and Microsoft just heard about it

What does this mean for the workers disciplined in the process of securing this policy? Eg, www.reuters.com/sustainabili...

Microsoft fires four workers for on-site protests over company's ties to IsraelMicrosoft said the terminations followed serious breaches of company policies.www.reuters.com

This is actually really interesting. In order to be a DoD compliant government contractor, (which Microsoft is) one of the terms of that agreement is an oddly specific clause preventing flat out boycott of Israel. Seems that doesn't include truncation of services though.

They won't surveil Palestinians but will surveil Americans? Interesting.

That will actually hinder them. That is a functional move.

PUNCH THEM KICK THEM HURT THE CORPORATION

It's a start. But given the power the world has surrendered to companies like them, and Apple, Facebook, Google, Amazon... there is much more than can/should be done in the interest of peace and "doing no harm"...

@b0tster.yeag.gay the pressure/boycotts worked lol. Better late than never, even if it doesn't wash microsoft's sins away.

Really taking their time on this.

Thing is, Israel doesn’t use their services for security functions. Just Microsoft trying to appease

I guess I have to pay for a windows license

#Kodak #SouthAfrica

**makes the Sound of Doubt and Squints my Eyes**

Anyone believe this ?

good

good

Killing innocent people wasn't a violation of the terms, I guess.

A bit late, eh?

hell yeah MS!

A bit late, but still, welcome news.

Kind of late. Many are dead already. Gaza seems to be leveled now. Trump is eyeing it up to develop the land there. Glad this is done. But wish it was done much sooner. Am I wrong?

Ответ для Flipturns 🏊‍♀️ 📷 🦋

should it have been done sooner? absolutely. We need more honest and brave journalists that take on companies like this and force them to capitulate. Microsoft was never going to do this on their own, and 99% of journalists either wouldn't have investigated this or wouldn't have been allowed to

Good. I'm still not resubscribing to gamepass though. Maybe rehire and compensate those they fired for daring to speak out.

But the blood on their hands will be there forever.

Ответ для My Name Is Aram

you are literally using products of companies that built concentration camps in the 1930

Took them long enough. Don’t automatically assume this was a morally driven decision. I imagine their business with countries recently endorsing Palestinian statehood being at risk is the cause.

Oh interesting after the genocide is almost complete. We’ve been boycotting them for two years.

I have to assume they are lying because its fucking Microsoft, which is wholly incapable of engaging in deeds that are not pure evil.

Weird that it took this long ... I don't get how the Gates Foundation and go together.

Ответ для teabelly

The gates foundation has repeatedly rejected the idea it should invest in a socially responsible way, they stopped answering questions about their investment in private prisons in 2016 after refusing to divest

Ответ для teabelly

philantropy is merely a tax evasion scheme

Wow. Congrats to all the Microsoft employees who were protesting from the inside.

Good! Hope more join in and bar Israel from using their services in order to continue their oppression of Palestinians. (and many thanks to South Park for pointing out that being a Jewish American is not the same as being Israeli or supporting Israeli genocide in Gaza)

Now do this with ICE

L

One good thing today.

They are still a horrible company that contributed to the genocide greatly but this was an amazing decision

They've almost completed the genocide, this means nothing.

Ответ для Julia Carrie Wong

Ball is in your court, Amazon employees.

Ответ для Julia Carrie Wong

8 petabytes is absolute peanuts for a state actor. The fact that they put it on a cloud in the first place indicates that someone made some stupid fucking decisions or there were kickbacks or they are lying about shutting them off and this is PR.

Ответ для Julia Carrie Wong

How is it even possible for all of the calls to be wiretapped so thoroughly? This is nuts. I hate Microsoft.

Boycotts got Jimmy Kimmel his job back, and now this? Amazing

T

Well, about fucking time.

What… did Israel miss a payment?

Bill Gates must be worried about the impending ICJ case that is inevitably going to question his complicity in apartheid and Israel's egregious genocide of Palestinians. It's only taken him 725 days and 50 children each day being slaughtered to act against Israeli aggression. #IsraelGenocide

Feels very late in the game, but ok.

Are these workers getting their jobs back now that Microsoft has done a pivot?
