New study shows that — contra widely accepted narratives — there is NO EVIDENCE that professors change their students’ politics and make them more liberal through their teaching

Unfortunately the anti-education chuds don’t care about data They hate that the majority of college students are women, so they are devaluing college like they devalued other women dominated fields

Thanks for reading and sharing! We just published our official working version here: Baum, Micah, Joaquín Endara, and Annaliese Paulson. (2026). Do Faculty Affect Student Partisanship?. (EdWorkingPaper: 26-1538). Retrieved from Annenberg Institute at Brown University: doi.org/10.26300/8ej...

Of course, great work! Have been waiting for such a paper

liberal arts tend to make one more liberal, except when it doesn't.

Every teacher's fantasy and wildest dream: students listen, pay attention, understand, and implement what they learned for life. It it were that easy, we could just record our lessons and walk away. The shocking fact is how much students are "taught' that is NOT retained. A huge percentage.

Anecdotally, as a non-trad stu, it be that pesky critical thinking and exposure to things other than those your Footloose ass family told you to be true. I'll say this, these DEI inquisitions at state schools in GOP supermajority states have had a VERY detrimental effect on my BSW curriculum...

Hotlines to report teachers, all kinds of stupid stuff. Black and Women's groups having to open their core mission to everyone (Yte Males) or disaffiliate. Most chose the latter.

In fact, if anything the study finds a small backlash effect to Democratic faculty (slightly higher chance of the student becoming a Republican!) It also shows that Democratic profs don’t include more liberal topics or textbooks in their courses

Saw this happen during my time at UC Santa Cruz (tho not the profs so much as the general atmosphere)
