man I will just never get over the fact that the collective response to the pandemic, and an absolutely miraculous vaccine development, was to destroy public health in this country and smear everyone involved I generally take a positive view of humanity overall but it's so depressing

Proud moment of public discourse, yeah ?

And it's all racism. Because if something benefits everyone, that means it benefits Those People. Can't have that. Nope. To high a price to pay.

We are all effectively being held hostage by a psychopath and his toxicity.

If you didn't vote Dem, you helped make this:

It's increasingly clear that about 65% of humans are decent and about 35% of humans are suicidally stupid tyranny and slavery-loving shit-brains and the 65% have to figure out how to blunt the impact of the 35%. Making two Dakotas was a major victory by the 35%.

One of my favorite proposed political strategies: Californians should subsidize 200,000 Democrats to move to Wyoming. This would give California two more senators and an additional representative.

This problem traces to the corrupted, billionaire-owned legacy media and the right-wing propaganda machine.

Exactly, this was not an organic backlash. A relative handful of wealthy and powerful people have spent decades creating the tools and preparing the ground for fascism, and they used the pandemic like any other exogenous shock to advance their goals.

Literal schoolyard bully shit. Trump's a loser, incapable of doing anything remotely praiseworthy. But what he CAN do is roll around in his moral contagion, and force others to do the same, spreading like a pestilence to everything around him. And he's doing just that.

Humanity is working hard every day to change your favorable opinion.

Even journalists & other professionals on X are vulnerable to Right Wing propaganda. It's just a fact of the human condition. Many ppl are good but also vulnerable to propaganda like all humans. theconversation.com/a-few-weeks-...

it's like we're still dealing with a collective trauma and instead of addressing the fact that it's a collective trauma, they're trying to find One Guy to blame for everything so they can say it's behind us

Moreno is the worst of humanity

All these bullies are really so disgusting!!

Other, more serious countries marginalize the nutters who attack the foundations of public health. The US right wing decided to ride the tiger instead. Catastrophic.

honestly wish we'd just let them try bleach or whatever

This performative chest-pounding for a man who doesn't know his name is so tiring

About 40% of humanity wants to murder a lot of the rest of us for a variety of horrific reasons (race, religion, gender, physical ability, greed, selfishness, etc.)

Same. We've turned into the dumbest country in human history.

trump and the gop are just rancid, toxic fucks who want to destroy everything. And they do.

I was a frontline healthcare worker during the early parts of the pandemic. There was a brief moment where the collective attitude seemed to be a “we can do it!” And then it all went south. I dare any of these weiner ass politicians to spend one day in an ICU.

Eeeghhh that was mostly celebrities doing cringey tone deaf PSAs for half a minute than real solidarity. You want real solidarity talk with disabled people. We never got it in return though.

as an ohioan i am beyond disgusted that we traded in sherrod brown for this

I think that younger folk will remember how horrifying all this anti-intellectualism was and respect education more when they take over. At least most of them will. But right now, things is really dang bad.

Yeah for real. This is messed up, even for Congressional grandstanding. To hear a guy who almost certainly got into politics because he's an ego-driven prostitute of his own soul say that Fauci was mostly concerned about being a celebrity is beyond ridiculous.

Brother should have answered “I’m the motherfucking lizard king” frankly . What a circus . Run into the ground by clowns, our country!

I'm with you.

Meanwhile, the guy has done nothing to help his daughter and granddaughter who were basically tortured by the husband/father Moreno is a worthless specimen as a man

“We should make sure this never happens again.” “Agreed: let’s put in place better processes for identifying and containing dangerous novel diseases.” “No, I mean we should never again inconvenience ourselves to save other people’s lives.”

I am but a dentist, though I practice in a very conservative, rural area that skews older. This message feels like it is mostly speaking to a very online audience. Many of my patients are fairly all in on good public health stuff. That said, it gets worse the younger the person is.

Ответ для rev_rend

And sadly, the population I've treated that was most likely to reject preventive public health measures was Medicaid recipients. FWIW, I did a lot of COVID vaccination and was strict in masking protocols. Ran into a lot more than just fluoride fights.

Ответ для rev_rend

I assure you people being unable to grasp that public health is real is not an online problem.

I will never understand how during a pandemic a significant percentage of the population *sided with the virus*

Yeh, Republicans are unequivocally **that bad**

It has been devastating for those of us in public health, even completely unrelated fields like chronic disease and maternal health.

Ответ для Doubtful Guest

These people have used the pandemic as an excuse to destroy public health across the board and it has been extremely painful for thousands of us and harmful to the health of Americans in general.

The Fauci conspiracies in particular drove me crazy — here was a man who worked kind of anonymously in public house for DECADES, and then supposedly around age 80 became a publicity seeking liar? Come on

Ответ для Steve Haskin

*public health

😔🥺

The only incongruity in Trump's iron grip on the GOP was when he shouted (rightly) from the rooftops about how good Project Warp Speed was and got bullied off of it. I don't understand how that happened.

Bernie Moreno is madder at Fauci working to keep him healthy in an unprecedented pandemic than he is at Max Miller for beating up his daughter and granddaughter.

They have to distance themselves from the one thing Trump did right in his first 4 years because the base is 100% made up of the dumbest and most conspiracy brained people on the planet.

It was excruciating for those of us who worked in hospitals, filling up with paranoid right wing patients who thought we were tricking them for money.

I literally watched the wife die of COVID. Her husband still refusing to vaccinate. Then I watched the husband die. It was very sad and very frustrating.

Ответ для Amber

Omg that must have been horrible.

Nah, I refuse to let these cultists curb my enthusiasm for science

The play "An Enemy of the People" remains undefeated

And for what? It was an unqualified Trump success and they not only turned on it but decided it was so bad that they wanted to burn medicine to the ground.

All to appease a convicted felon, rapist, thief, liar, heartless criminal. It's all so bizarre.

Funny that he just described Trump at the end there.

I hesitate watching the entire hearing, but did fauci clap back at all? Not his fault people were either making him a celebrity or pariah for overseeing vaccine development, imo.

He took the 5th, which is the only advisable move under the circumstances, and when you take the 5th you have to say nothing, not selectively give answers you think are good for you.

I find it embarrassing for your nation that youe legislators routinely use vulgar language. The same language would get you suspended from Parliament in the UK. Absolutely no need.

I find it embarrassing that an adult in 2026 is spouting Victorian bullshit like this. What are you gonna cover the piano legs next?

As to the question, I think Fauci thought he was the medical advisor to President Donald J. Trump. Because that's who he was.

Collective when you mean US. Humanity when you mean US.

None of the friends who pushed my FiL to take ivermectin instead of getting vaccinated saw any reason to change course or admit their mistake after he died from covid. I don't think sociopathic is too unkind to describe them.

At least one entire party of american politics is completely filled with idiots

Ah yes, this pantload beat Sherrod Brown because of what The National described as alt right opium going viral in Ohio.

Worse, the effort is full steam ahead to rewrite COVID history in the public consciousness, To them, 1984 is an instruction manual.

Only because it happened under the watch of a malignant narcissist.

Give me convenience or give me death was the big rallying cry from 2020 and it unfortunately transcended party lines.

It’s been a bad day.

They all should be forbidden to take anything from modern medicine for them and their families. It is such utter ignorant bullshit. Fuck all these ghouls.

you’re telling me, my man

My wife works in biotech and I cornered every family member who voiced this shit and said ,” do you think (spouses name) is maliciously trying to kill, sterilize or maim people? Answer carefully.” They all fucking equivocated some version of “it’s the higher ups” and I said it was antivaxx bullshit

Ответ для Lord Sparkinari

They want their right wing comic universe of villains to be real and it pisses me off to an extreme degree. I know my fan obsessions are fake. The same level of supernatural/government thriller narrative they accept readily. HRC assassins, Jewish cabals, Soros sleeper cells. Why? Because

It should have been lauded like the fucking miracle it was. Shouted about, praised, celebrated! Instead, we ended up with half the country no longer believing in vaccines as a whole. I don't understand.

right, operation warp speed was basically the one thing he ever did that provided some genuine public benefit and it became such a liability with his base that he completely disavowed it and handed HHS over to the antivax industrial complex

Melissa. Just Melissa.

Especially weird that the vaccine was the one positive thing Trump could credibly take some credit for, but instead... this.

Ответ для Micah

I detect a connection btw this and the right-wing claims that "no one" died bc of USAID cuts or by ICE. @gregsargent.bsky.social has pointed out, they mean "no one who matters." For all posturing, I think the anti-vax stance stems from the notion that the vaccine saved some who didn't deserve it.

Ответ для Micah

He tried to claim credit once early in Biden’s presidency but his cultists booed him so he disavowed the one thing his administration did that didn’t suck

Ответ для Micah

I suspect that a good part of it is that the vaccine was *announced* just after Biden won the election, so it became associated with "deep state conspiracy" in the MAGA mind even though Biden had basically fuck-all to do with it.

Ответ для Micah

Yeah, that was something I didn't see coming. I was ready to downplay Trump's role. Maybe any president would have prioritized getting a vaccine. But who actually knows? mRNA vaccines were an absolute game changer and it's politically safe for people like me to give Trump 1.0 all the credit. Weird.

Ответ для Micah

He tried to take credit for it and they booed him at a rally! It‘s the single most successful propaganda ever done by Fox News, all in the name of denying Biden any sort of win.

Ответ для Micah

Ironically it’s the one thing that might actually have gotten him the peace prize. Rapid vaccine development and roll out plans should have been a ‘world saving moment’. If he’d doubled down on the US leading worldwide public health efforts he could have swept ivermectin stupidity under the rug.

Ответ для Micah

I am almost certain that he wins in 2020 if he had handled covid better.

Especially weird that the vaccine was the one positive thing Trump could credibly take some credit for, but instead... this.

Ответ для Melissa. Just Melissa.

I don't think he *ever* was really happy about it. Even when *he* got the 'rona he talked up Ivermectin a lot more than anything about vaccine development!

Ответ для Melissa. Just Melissa.

Why? What did he have to do with it? (serious question)

Ответ для Melissa. Just Melissa.

Remember when Geraldo suggested calling it The Trump Vaccine to increase redneck uptake

Moreno, another guy off the boat supporting the guy who is trying to sink the same boat for others. Opportunity for me, but not for thee. Also, another fake Christian, who supports the least Christian among us old Donnie, the demon. These clowns beating up on Fauci for political points make me sick

Revealed preference shows that 92% of American adults have received at least one dose of a covid-19 vaccine. You can’t let the bastards get you down.

I’m totally depressed by the treatment of Fauci today. 😡

What I hoped we'd learn was that everyone's health should matter to us. We, uh... didn't learn that.

the thing that makes me especially insane is that you could *very easily* present this as a win for conservative ideas. we got red tape out of the way so we could move quickly, and then we moved quickly and it probably saved tens of millions of lives

Ответ для Materialist Gnostic

but the modern GOP cannot claim credit for it because the only ideology they have is the death drive. literally any positive virtue, even the ones they profess to have, is the enemy

Ответ для Materialist Gnostic

They got the vaccine ready and that was incredible. They won't take the W and that is disturbing.

It's worse, they've gone on in the same vein to rob you of scientific progress with mRNA for cancer vaccines and other uses, the vandalism of the NIH, the nonsense decisions coming out of the FDA, etfc
