OK, I know everyone is going to dogpile on this, but: Health insurance. In 2009 we still had lifetime caps and pre-existing conditions and kids getting dropped from their parents' plan when they hit 18. A baby could be uninsurable before it left the hospital. Things still suck, but so much less.
