My field generally has a pretty gentle approach to conference q&a, but it's not 100% and I think it's still much more challenging (in the send of being challenged) questions than would seem normal to outsiders. And even kind peer-review can be absolutely devastating. It's worst when they're right.
Dr. Sarah ParcakIt's incredible is how little folks understand about academe. Peer review is brutal. Academic Q+A is Troy level slaughter. Bros attacking a lady academic for a fair review would shit themselves on stage after a paper and break down into toddler tears after their first conference paper w a mean Q+A.
