Thing is Steph, this kind of assumes everyone can learn same way/has the desire to learn it all. People learn many different ways and most have a passing interest/curiosity that doesn’t extend beyond the one bird they want ID for. Many birders wouldn’t pick up NvD Advanced Guide because no images.

Unfortunately it's people who actually are interested and taking the hobby seriously that told me field guides are too difficult. There were the same casual birdwatchers when I started but they at least bought guides. We have a problem in society that people outsource their thinking to others or AI.

Even my elderly neighbour who just looks out the window and really isn't interested beyond that has a guide...
