I didn’t spend much time in the building when I was a student (studying degree in Computation - that’s Computer Science). I have regretted for a long time that I didn’t explore when I had that chance. It’s an amazing building with an observatory in roof and many other unexpected things.

I had lectures in one subject in one year in there, learning circuit diagrams (hmm, maybe also databases was there), but otherwise lectures were in the Renold or MSS buildings. Exams & graduation & library were also in there.

After UMIST & University of Manchester finally decided to merge the old UMIST campus has gradually stopped being used & last I heard it seems will become some kind of business park. Main building future still unknown though 😞

It’s hard when your university name ceases to exist and younger generations have never heard of it, despite it having been *the* place for technology subjects, and you have to watch your old campus become empty and run down and change use. I am an alumni of the University of Manchester now.
