Were people saying that about VR? I know it was a thing for the metaverse but I don't remember VR getting past the "Pretty cool for video games" phase.

It certainly felt like there were a couple decades where VR was perpetually, just around the corner, going to be the next big thing and now it’s practically fallen off the map. But mostly I just thought it was funny/illustrative to post that picture…

The Segway or Google Glass would probably be a more direct comparison. But I don’t know if there’s a picture of Gilbert Gottfried using them.
