While it does nudge a little too much into misery porn, I think the last arc showing the horrific treatment of victims who come forward about being sexually abused is kinda unmatched in anime. The show is definitely misogynist in some other weird ways, but I still adore it.
Magical Angel Jao85, Shigofumi (rewatch) One of my most rewatched anime and I still like it an awful lot. Okouchi's plotting is like watching Sideshow Bob stepping on rakes, but I think the way this show engages with mortality and teen disassociation and angst is very special. Tatsuo Sato's direction is fantastic.
