A human rights organisation that backs down from a legal challenge from anti-rights groups is not functionality a human rights org. It's not the girl guides for god sake. If Rowling wants to try and put them out of business they should bang their damn drum and make a show of it.

I don't think you actually understand how rich she is. She got the law in the UK changed. Blaming the victims of her bullying just means you don't give a shit about how she treats people.

As a charity, I'm not sure they could. They're legally required to protect their assets for application to their charitable purpose. The likely scale of potential loss is probably not one a charity could legally countenance.

You're not wrong. And this is something that goes way beyond Amnesty. Rowling, and some others like her such as Musk or Bezos, have the power to tie up or destroy humanitarian organisations. Amnesty might be wrong here, but still they have good reasons.

I get that but it’s a risible state of affairs when an organisation famed for its pursuit of human rights is thwarted not by a dictator or a warlord but by a fucking children’s book author. Not only do they capitulate, they also distance themselves from the report. Hardly fills me with confidence.
