if you look at a lot of previous From games before Miyazaki took point there are almost always mandatory poison/damage areas it's a sign of the strong DRPG conventions represented in the series and I think it's interesting how much design is consistent across their library, outside his influence

I have found my favor swamp level in a souls like- Dolls Nest This has anime girls with Armor core movement and guns in demon souls style maps. So you can rocket jump and glide. EZ swamp... Right up until he giant archer shoots massive harpoons at you. But you have the control to deal with it.
