This is a really odd translation of this new term for an extremely hot day. The NYT renders 酷暑日 (kokushobi) as “cruel heat day.” But that implies an agency that weather cannot have. “Brutally hot day” is a better localization.

Well, isn't there just as much agency in the original? And Cruel Summer is a great song.
