Many republicans did help the allies, both western and eastern. Be it in regular armies or as resistance fighters. In return, no one helped them liberate Spain.
It was the moral obligation of Europe to get involved in the Spanish Civil War & fix the unspeakable mess that the Spanish had created? What country or countries do you think could have worked that miracle? (Just reflect for a minute on how well they fared against Germany in the war in 1939-40.)
