setting aside data centers, environmental concerns, any sci-fi/fantasy AI-apocalypse concerns, and concerns about built in bigotry or using AI for evil ends like drone targeting; discounting all that, i'd be for banning LLMs just based on lazy people overusing them and it making those people stupid

dating these days is bleak because I feel like I gotta constantly be on the lookout for who’s cooking their brains on AI while blowing their income on prediction markets

I would also like to have a conversation where someone doesn't eventually talk about AI. It's annoying and I immediately lose interest

* MORE stupid

The worst for me is now the stupid people think their output is on par with actual art or words, to the point that they're outwardly smug about it. They should never be allowed to have this much confidence.

it's bad that people are willingly making themselves dull and stupid or in some cases insane

my colleagues are just willingly giving up their ability to read/write. Like they were using chatgpt for a creative task to think of names for something for a party. I didn't say anything but like, c'mon.

Ever since GPS I don't know how to get anywhere and ever since cellphones I don't remember anyone's number. I'm fine with that. But AI is meant to replace thinking and that seems to be a lot to lose

Most of the country won't let you smoke weed out of fears that it'll make you kind of tuned out and hungry, but there's no pushback whatsoever against the stupefying machine that turns some men into family annihilators.

I see comments on here like "I asked Claude <question>" and those are the easiest blocks in the world. I have no interest in seeing your bullshit "well, the machine told me".

Stupid people tend to be especially excited about AI because it provides them with a shortcut to feeling smart and competent, which they would otherwise never experience. As a bonus, it at least superficially cheapens the expertise and thus status of their betters, which must also feel nice

Yeah. Learning to read significantly degrades memory, but literacy is such a powerful tool that it's worthwhile. Using AI just replaces your critical thinking with the ability to listen to an automated bullshitter. Not a good trade at all.

Can confirm that clients come in to my work and say “you have this” and show me something chat GPT hallucinated and they have the gall to act surprised when I tell them that 1) it doesn’t exist or 2) would not even work for the thing they’re trying to fix

I think they should be regulated in the way that lasers are for explicit scientific uses, the only uses I've seen that are actually productive and not mind-numbing. We don't let the general public have lasers even though it might be easier to cut some things.

There is one person I corresponded with who has turned over their email account to an LLM to send and reply to emails. And I have just stopped corresponding with them as a result.

Dude I've been struggling to understand the schedule for the county fair because they only use ai slop flyers and they're full of errors and I just wanna see a pig race but I'm not even sure that's real

i'd humbly add making the worst "art" possible and their awful political cartoon bullshit.

I honestly think a license that required a minimum LSAT score of 135 would cut out about 90% of the issues

And burning down the Library of Alexandria in the process of feeding their dumb dumb bot.
