I don’t think anyone who loves cities would disagree with that, least of all me
I also think squalor or a real sense of lawlessness in a city is terrible for everyone including the most vulnerable
Right and by eliminating a bunch of street parking in NYC, they have been able to tackle a ton of “squalor” by being able to containerize garbage instead of the decades-old practice of just dumping garbage bags on the sidewalks.
I live in Baltimore, a place with a bigger reputation for “lawlessness” and “squalor” than damn near anywhere else in the US; “getting more people into cars” isn’t solving any of the problems my community is facing, and the added expense of owning a car is something the vulnerable can’t swing.
Ultimately what cars end up doing is allowing people with some degree of means to opt out of sharing spaces with others, resulting in the most vulnerable being left with ever-worsening services.
