In 1958, LaFayette moved to Nashville, Tenn., to attend the American Baptist Theological Seminary. It was here that he began attending nonviolence workshops led by James Lawson, who had spent three years as a missionary in India, studying Mahatma Gandhi’s nonviolent resistance strategies. /2
