…okay? And? Do they not want to sell more copies cause vinyl records sell too.

Should we tell him about the uptick in vinyl record sales? 15 years ago, they would sell maybe 3 million units. Today, it's closer to 50 million. So...yeah. This little quote is finna go over super well... www.taylor.com/blog/increas...

Increased Vinyl Sales and the Vinyl Records RevivalThe growth of vinyl LP record sales is being driven by nostalgia, digital fatigue and Gen Z’s love of custom vinyl album packaging details.www.taylor.com

Disgusting

Let me purchase a DRM-Free digital copy and sure, then I could bite.

There's a specific reason cassettes, cds, and especially vinyl... is back and big biz. There will never be DLC, an AI song, an ad, or DRM on my wax.

I love having physical copies but he’s right with needing to be connected to play. So eventually you’ll just have a disc that doesn’t do anything unless they change needing to be connected all the time

Okay, but vinyl records are still being made and can be used. Take-Two, Sony and almost definitely Microsoft as well are aiming for a market where the option isn't even there.

calling it now " sony / MS " servers crash from the download stress the day GTA 6 comes out. they never build up to meet capacity needs , they just let the system crash.

"Owning your media is already as good as dead anyway, so we figure, why not shovel the last bit of dirt onto the grave? What's the difference? Everything already sucks!"

Ответ для WhimsicalSquirrel

Everything but the last sentence is true though.

Take-Two not being an asshole challenge (IMPOSSIBLE)

For people who buy $80 video games maybe, but not for the millions of people who buy used or discounted games, people that Sony/T2 wish didn’t exist

everyone's gonna hate him but he isnt entirely wrong

Ответ для 2-Way_Intersection

"Also, most instances you have to register online to play anyhow" multimillionaire CEO sounding like the average uninformed commenter

A LOT of modern game soundtracks get released on vinyl. I would assume because of the insane price of hardware major game publishers are gonna move to a SaaS model, where you don't even get a download, because why give you anything at this point? Not having OPTIONS or protections is the real problem

okay. let's extrapolate from that. in the music industry, digital sales have plummeted since everyone transitioned to streaming services. is he saying investors should expect the game to flop unless it launches day one on game pass/ps plus?

Yeah he wants an all digital future so he can continue to jack the price up, that's all this is. Physical is important for a variety of reasons and he's just an asshole for trying to kill it.

Mid Theft Auto. Bottom of the barrel, lowest common denominator, normie slop. Now with a new coat of paint!

Fuck you, Zelnick.

Looking forward to the analog version of Bully 2.

Ответ для braintuba

I just realized this is a Take Two guy, so I'd like to add the analog versions of Farmville and The Darkness 2.5 to my wait-list.

they still print vinyls tho????? Vinyl collecting is at its most popular it’s been in decades

bsky.app/profile/does...

Does it play?

Tired of "physical games need downloads anyway" or "discs don't have the game on them"? Here is the video to stop this nonsense: youtu.be/61m1e4Jjick Bookmark it! Share it! Post it everywhere you see misinformation about physical media!

yes a physical release with a physical copy of the item is good

Vynils? The thing people are ACTIVELY collecting again? Those vynils?!

Lot of blathering to say

Discs have plenty of uses for the owner. There's financial value with resale, communal value with sharing & gifting, and even sentimental & artistic value from being able to hold your favorite games or the works of your favorite studios in your hand. Holding a general-purpose SSD ain't the same

For the Take-Two boss:

I’m already annoyed that people are going to sign up for Netflix just watch an extended trailer for GTA 6 knowing the trailer will drop on YouTube a couple hours later

And that's a wrap, the game is now a dead on arrival hazard that can only rely on being a gta game

People love vinyl records

I would love to check out what rock he lives under. Vinyl records have had a popularity resurgence within the last few years.

I’m sure he would love for video games to go the way of the music industry. Artists getting paid 0.1c a listen, customers paying monthly subscriptions, force AI slop into shit so you don’t need to pay anyone anything… 🖕

If you are part of the 20%< gamers who are standing on this "physical 💿 or bust" hill? You've already lost that battle. And in order to win, you have to convince the 80%> who buy digital to join you. Think that's gonna happen? No. Now gamer's rights is a battle that needs to be fought. This? Stop.

I’m too dumb to decide what I like. I need someone else to tell me what makes sense for me.

Is this motherfucker unaware of the huge resurgence of vinyl in the last 15 years?

Ответ для pitak

No, he's very aware of the 10% of sales vinyl makes up in the industry. It's exactly the number he uses in fact. It sounds more like you and physical game fans are unaware of how small you are. Just very very loud.

Strauss can try to wrap his BS in the cover of consumer concern, but it still stinks of corporate greed.

So glad he added himself to WWE 2K26, I can virtually beat this pathetic loser up.

Ah yes. Vinyl records.

He’s not wrong, it just still stings in the wake of everything. I’ve got a couple hundred vinyl albums but 99% of my daily music is played through Spotify

Ответ для Chat of the Wild - A Legend of Zelda Podcast

I feel like he's wrong on... a lot there. "Discs don't make sense for the consumer" but they do, because its actual ownership "Most instances you have to register online to play anyway" Also wrong and also that'd be terrible if true. "Its all the same," but they literally AREN'T the same haha.

This is all about control. It might be true there's not as much demand for physicals, but I'm fairly sure their motives aren't because it doesn't make sense for the consumer. It's because they want to control people's ability to consume

I'm still expecting GTA6 to end up being the worst game ever made that has been in Development Hell, even worse than Duke Nukem Forever

So what I got from that paragraph is the physical media of games is like the vinyl market, a very small percentage, 10% while digital makes up 90% Implying they would rather focus on 90% of their market, while phasing out the 10% so they don't want 100% of their market intact?

Ответ для Stella Mulberry

They would have had a Bully 2 (10%), but canceled to put more resources into gta6 (90%). BUT we could have had a Bully 2 to play while waiting for gta6, despite it likely being more money. Neither of these games exist, yet. 10% is more inconvenient for them than the 90%

Umm, I don’t think he understands just how massive vinyl has become again as it makes up over 60% of physical media (music) sales. Heck in terms of consumed media in general at one point this decade vinyl took over as the main source of consumed media that wasn’t a social network….

Ответ для bright1150

But how much of total sales?? You aren’t getting the point!

Ответ для bright1150

Seriously? You seriously are doing this? He's not talking about physical sales, of which discs would be probably 90% of. He's talking all sales. Vinyl is about 10% of that, the same number he says physical is. People don't buy physical music anymore. Or games. You may hate it but he's right.

Fuck off! Just trying to make up bs to trick consumers. I don't like the idea of a pure digital landscape for gaming but I'd respect you more if you are just straight up and say that you want all of the money. Unless we reach a point where you can transfer digital rights, that's all this is about.

Realistically, we are into year 20 of games moving beyond the access speeds discs can make work without local storage being needed

That 90% of sales are already digital is a very biased number, it's only true if you count every sake as equal (no matter the price) and count digital only games that don't have the capability to sell physical. If you only look at games that released both, physical sales still lead

Ответ для Cube

Yeah, while it's true that most of my games are digital these days, that is when they are about $20 or less. I almost never pay $70 for a digital game, and when I do, it's usually because I have a gift card or rewards points, never $70 out of pocket.

Ответ для Cube

The 85%+ digital sales number also counts expansions, DLC, and microtransactions. So, e.g., someone could buy Fallout 4's physical disc + the six DLC individually and the statistic would say 85.71% of their purchases are digital games. Despite them owning a single game + the single game's DLC.

I mean, yeah, if you dont care about accessibility or artistry in your medium, sure, make it completely inaccessible to anyone without a decent Internet connection. Like, wow, when you think of games as pig slop, i guess it really doesn't matter how it gets to my trough!! Make choices for me please!

If discs equate to vinyl records, then give us a disc version the same way we can buy vinyls nowadays.

Publishers have always hated people buying or lending used games, this is their chance to finally get rid of it.

‪Didn’t Sony just literally announce or release a vinyl player?‬

Oh fuck off, you out of touch corpo.

I’m consumer. Discs make sense for me.

Eat shit and live you cunt! Ive never bought digital and dont see myself ever doing it. When I buy something I prefer to actually be able to hold it.

Everyone who is responding about vinyls This is the point they are making 88%!!And for the audiophiles out there they love vinyl because they think it sounds better. There isnt a vidoegame equivalent in terms of the quality of the game between digital and physical.

Fuck you Zelnick, cunt

Missed opportunity to do a physical up-priced version of the game as a preoder, assuming it can even fit on a disc. They can't even do being scummy right

Ответ для Sur-Shiner

It wouldn't even be their first time doing multiple discs. GTA V's original release on PS3 utilized two discs.

In terms of just being and to resell and borrow games in an "all-digital-future" (and I can't believe I'm saying this but) Game Key Cards are actually still a good idea. Unless everyone wants to start allowing transfer of digital licenses some other way.

It'll sell 30 million first day

today vinyl records are seen like premium products for people of culture who value they're hobby, so is he essential saying GTA VI is NOT a premium product?

Moronic take

Them and Sony are giving us legit every reason NOT to buy this fucking overhyped game...

Ответ для Blaster1360

Unfortunately it's just going to be a very, very small percentage of us not buying GTA VI on day one lol

"In certain instances, discs don't really make sense for the consumer." Fuck you. They make sense to me because I want them. Don't tell me what I want, you stupid husk. If it was about what's best for customers, it'd be an option. But it's not. It's greed, plain and simple.

Releasing the trailer behind a paywall known as Netflix is definitely revealing a change in attitude. They have become the very same greedy monsters the GTA franchise had been lampooning

Why wouldnt options make sense for the consumer? I mean ofc it makes sense for a megacorp to cut ways with options that allows a secondary market, but for the consumer it always makes sense to have options so I cant really agree with that corporate speech from Zelnick.

“Who cares?” 🫠

This is especially egregious considering the cost of storage on a local home system these days. If you want to play more than 1 game at a time, you need to pay an extra couple hundred dollars for a second stick of NVME on pretty much every console.

Ответ для Halil Heyman

probably through epstein

The local Walmart literally redid an entire aisle in electronics specifically to expand their vinyl selection due to how well sales have been. It legit looks good and kinda unreal when compared to how small their CD selection is.

Ответ для Ly-Con

That's worse than anything else this Take Two corpo fuck said. Corpo labels jumping on the vinyl trend SUCKS.

Thanks to corporations ruining everything, the independent metal, punk and hip hop labels who never stopped putting out vinyl have gotten fucked by rising costs and long order times. Lol at people mad at their all digital future still ponying up $100 for the actually complete edition of GTA VI.

People are still buying vinyls! They’re still being made! What the hell is this idiot smoking???

Ответ для The Rocket Knight

People are still buying vinyls yes but vinyls are no longer the center of the market. That was his point of the comparison.

Even if that were an apt comparison, yk they still make vinyl records, right?? And CDs, at that—cassettes, even! A fickle digital license isn’t the *only* option for those mediums

Vinyls are literally the worst example you could use

i do like that this implies GTA 6 isn’t valuable enough to receive a vinyl release if it were an album

Vinyl Records are super fucking popular... so is he just stupid?

Ответ для Alt

yeah... with collectors. not people who just wanna listen to music

Ответ для Alt
R

you clearly didn’t read the quote

Ответ для Alt

I want physical copies… but I fuckin hate Vinyl records. And never understood there popularity. There huge, require unique tech to listen, old ones require speaker set up, and not really for better audio quality. I like my 2000s era CDs, compact, easy to store, more data, easy to rip,

Ответ для Alt

Vinyl records emit toxic chemicals as they degrade. discs are quite different. sure, they biodegrade, but not nearly at the same rate as vinyls, tapes, VHSs, etc. modern nintendo carts and ps5 discs make functional sense. I want to preserve physical media too, but you’re leveraging a bad argument

Ответ для Alt

Vinyl records are absolutely not the primary medium for music distribution anymore though. They exist purely as collector's items.
