A terrible day for trans people in Britain and a shameful one for the EHRC and government

Equality and Human Rights Commission

At some point, the fact the current legislation is demonstrably unworkable must force government to actually come up with functional alternatives, right? *Padme face* Right?

There is this. It's not perfect, but it might be helpful: www.essehouse.co.uk/pee-in-peace...

A terrible day for everyone. We now face conflict when we do something as simple as going into a public toilet.

This is the biggest rollback of women's rights since the Raj Era Criminal Tribes Act. All women whether born cis or trans are now targeted for state abuse by the govt and EHRC directly thwarting the will of parliament without a single vote. Described as 'genocidal' by the Lempkin Institute!

Somewhat disgusting to hear Nick Robinson on Today talk about "trans rights" versus "women's right to safe spaces". That ain't it Nick

Nick Robinson’s career should never have progressed beyond some provincial newsroom somewhere. In fact, in a non-broken timeline, he should probably be an incompetent senior spad for some minor, possibly slightly disgraced, backbench Tory MP.

I see no reason why women's rights should trump anyone else's rights. No one should expect their group/demographic/etc to be able to dominate all or any other groups. It isn't as though all women have the same attitude towards trans people as the TERF/GCs, who I suspect are a minority anyway.

There’s never a “versus” when it comes to rights.

The women who could pass for men are going to experience some of what trans women go through, as are trans men, if they now follow guidance and use the women’s toilets. All these regulations will do is to massively expand the number of people made to feel uneasy about using women’s facilities.

He’s very bad on it. It feels like there’s a very strong consensus on radio 4 around a GC reading of trans rights.

Just want someone to question them on how exactly a trans woman makes a safe space unsafe and removing them makes it safe.

A good day for women

It really isn't. More women will be harassed going about their daily lives as a result of this guidance coming into force.

Only the paranoid bigoted ones who have wasted the last few years obsessing over this issue while misogyny booms

Yes an absolutely lousy day for any woman who isn’t completely and absolutely gender conforming. Have you ever had a bad experience from a trans woman in a Ladies? I ask because I haven’t. I’ve had bad experiences from cis women and girls, never a trans one.

Very revealing comment

Unless you don't exactly fit what the closest bigot to you deems to be female. Then you're on your own against the unregulated toilet inspectors. That isn't a safe situation for ANY woman.

Ответ для FrancesCrook@bsky.social

Yeah! It's all fun and games until someone questions YOU if you're using the correct toilet, you might just get away with a bit of embarrassment & verbal but, there are that many GC nutters out there who can be sure.

I recently had my hip replaced by a trans woman surgeon. I would defend her right to use whatever toilet she bloody well liked.

It is all invented paranoia. Generated by the right (and online bots) to rally the bigots all because they have bugger all else to talk about or defend. I transitioned 15 years ago. Lots of female friends who are horrified by all this, never had a problem and never any issue in a toilet.

I wanted to offer support and say I have never been sexually assaulted in a toilet by a trans woman but I have been by a cis het man.
