The continued political silence over the spread of these anti-migrant, anti-refugee pogroms in the UK is a disgrace. This one has been going on for three nights in a row now and the Home Secretary and Prime Minister haven't said a single word about it www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...

Someone should ask the PM which group he thinks is more representative of the UK he wants: some people sitting outside parliament holding signs criticising the government's stance on Palestine, or some people trying to break into houses and harm the occupants, who then also attack the police.

And they're calling it "disorder" - but a cardboard sign is terrorism! (Yes, I know it's more complicated than that. But still.)

People are drinking standing up, Adam! Surely you see the need to curb this first? Terrorism and violence can wait. 🍻🤷‍♀️

Yet more thugs egged on by local Reform Councillors, spouting "legitimate" concerns and claiming the protest was largely peaceful! Quite how its legitimate to attack peoples homes and intimidate them is beyond me.

A

Was even Starmer this craven?

Ответ для Adrian Short

What do you mean even, a cheap shot which bears no relation to the facts. Go research his response to the #FarageRiots then sit down and be quiet.

Let’s get much tougher on these protests.

I felt like I stumbled across this issue yesterday almost by accident, just like it's more of a local news item.

Now Nigel is done for there will be a lot of politically homeless racists and neo nazis kicking about who know silence is compliance and might be tempted.

I get it. The home office says it tries to distribute migrants across the country. This is of course a foetid load of dingoes kidneys. Migrants tend to get shoved in the cheaper parts of the country. How many have been allocated to Oxford? Knightsbridge, etc.

Taking your kids to a violent protest... send children's services round...

It's deliberate. And you write for an investigative outlet that has done much of the work to highlight the trans-Atlantic connections that are driving it. So maybe you should shout about it more. bsky.app/profile/iamy...

iamyou84

So, for example, if you wonder why the government won't get off X, or properly regulated GB News - those things rotting the public's brains are the plan.

M

Or what the BBC insist on calling ‘anti-immigration protests’

Silence = support.

A rare example of where Starmer could be a role model. It was in his early PM days but he he was clear on on the right side then.

Yet when it happens to SKS he spoke out and acted immediately to quell the unrest. This will be a good indicator if Burnham can cope under some real issues

Ah, but the issue of standing-up in pubs is so much more important than racist pogroms or, say, climate change.

Has this become normal for Norfolk?

Ответ для RichardM

Thetford has had difficulties for a very long time I’m afraid. Think it used to be Eastern Europeans getting grief and now it’s someone else. Yarmouth is awful. Witnessed blatant racist abuse and called it out just two days ago. Immigration may be down but hateful racism isn’t.

I don't think they want to give it any oxygen to be honest.

Shaban Mahmood has made xenophobia a protected belief

Appalling.

If the media outlets spreading the fear stopped, their sales/advertising revenues would suffer. Hence the need for new media regulation to stop barefaced lies and disinformation campaigns, as sadly too many are wildly out of control, especially US owned media and social media.

Nobody is going to like me saying this, but not ENOUGH people responsible for this are getting injured and hospitalized. Britain of all fucking countries has had this thing where you need to break their fucking nose to get them to come to their better senses.

I'm old enough to remember when all the Sensibles said it was good to put Nick Griffin on Question Time actually, as it would destroy the Far Right if people actually heard him. That went well.

We have just swapped one bunch of Labour cowards for another. Pathetic.

The bbc were accepting this is 'alright in a democratic country' on Newsnight. But it is not these people's choice to be housed there. Mobs dragging them out in the dead if night to beat them is abhorant behaviour

Nothing to see here move along Burnham appointed Mahmood who hasn't changed her views. The front man may have changed but some of the message is the same.

Ответ для lifemodeldecoy

Newly elected. Mind you the turnout was dreadful.

Some labour supporter genuinely said to me the other day that the government isn't there to change the system.... That's exactly what they're elected to do! But this is the complacency and down right moronic opposition we face

If you disagree with the migration policy demonstrate where politicians can hear you. If you are just thugs continue to terrorise innocent human beings. These people are just using this for racist violence. Bet there were kids in these houses

Journalists should get Farage and Yaxley Lennon's views on this. Do they support housebreaking, assault and violent intimidation along race lines? Are they supporters of not only hate speech but actual mob violence? And can they be held to account for their stance?

Isn't Burnham on holiday this week? Can't spoil the fun!

Whatever happened to dispersal orders? Are they still a thing and if so, why on earth aren’t they being used? These protests are taking up far too much police time. They’re not expressing legitimate concerns - they’re racist thugs out for a ruck. It’s time to get tough and feel some collars.

Meanwhile in the BBC…

and how many of these farage rioters have signed the petition over P C Harper!!! the irony

Seems like the uk is on the verge of a civil war with its own leadership as much as the us. This is something crazy going on

Ответ для RotorRat

"Seems like the uk is on the verge of a civil war with its own leadership as much as the us" -- calm down, calm down. We're not talking significant numbers here. Any number of people terrorizing individuals in their homes is too many, but "civil war"? Puhleeze.

Nandy should be onto Meta. There's a ton of "No HMOs, homes for locals" accounts often run by far-right individuals sharing addresses. Housing and statutory authorities need to come up with compliance alternatives that don't give bad people these current addresses and applications

FOI data often reveals surprisingly high refusal numbers of English people refusing to take council properties they are offered. That is why refugees are put in these properties. @mrjamesob.bsky.social

Holidays come first, Adam (for some in Govt anyway).

Thetford is a divided town. It’s where Dads Army was filmed. Old Thetford is beautiful in that Norfolk/Suffolk slightly going to seed places. Across the river that runs through the town is a massive post war “new town” Thetford. Here there is much social deprivation and poverty.

Ответ для Bern

Fertile ground then, for the instigators of unrest who finger point on behalf of their sponsors. There's fuckery at work and it smells of Trump's cabal.

Ответ для Bern

I remember that Thetford was where you were constantly sending The Marshal in the game *Kingmaker*. That was how I discovered that it existed.

Yeah but standing up in pubs and all that though.

Ответ для Garrie Coleman

That was f*ck all to do with the Government, it was a Westminster council plan which has been dropped.

If I hear the words "legitimate concerns" once more, I'll scream! You take 'legitimate concerns' to the local council, to your MP, etc. You don't break into people's homes, or assault the police!!

Yup, I'm just imagining the response from noises off on all sides if this was happening when Keir Starmer was PM, he was regularly criticised for not commenting on every single thing which happened on an almost hourly basis. Compare and contrast his actions in 2024, weeks after the GE.

I no fan of Mahmood, she is awful, but she has issued a statement over Thetford racist attacks

This is nothing to do with anti-migrant, it's all about pro-racist. I'm sick of what the media has allowed in this Country. Yes the PM should speak but the media has inflated all of this.

And still yesterday I heard the term "protests" being used for this thuggery. These journalists would also have labelled the events of 9 November 1938 as "protests".

It's not just street violence but attacking people in their homes. Under Thatcher - not the most progressive of PMs - this would have caused horror in the media and urgent meetings in number ten.

If I vote for Restore and they bring back the death penalty for these racist twats will I be doing more harm than good?

Ответ для Marcus Wellington-Boot

What makes you think racist gangs would be subject to any form of legal action under Restore for attacking asylum seekers and non-whites?

Wes Streeting has now actually commented - still both sidesing but at least saying rioting is unacceptable. Why Wes? Why not Burnham? Haigh? Mahmood?

Agree. I'd hoped that this would be the area where the new improved government would actually be an improvement. The PM is on holiday and these rioting racists know it?

Ответ для La Reine des Metaphores

Are you suggesting that fifth column agitators are propagating social unrest? In my opinion, you'd not be wrong.

Is it possible that by staying quiet about it they are trying to avoid giving it air & fanning the flames to prevent the unrest from spreading across the country?

The local MP has voiced his concerns and I totally agree with all he says…

Ответ для Stuart Hemingway

By the way he is a Labour Party MP

Ответ для Stuart Hemingway

There are problems with what he says. He's not saying that these people have been encouraged to adopt unacceptable views on immigration, that promulgating such views amounts to both ignorance and evil. He implies that the only thing wrong is the violence of the protest, not the desire to protest.

'Refugees not welcome' is obscene. In a fantasy better world, we'd exchange these monstrous ignoramuses for more immigrants, and ship them off to a desert island.

Sickening lack of concern and response by the police - large gangs smashing someone's windows and violently trespassing, assaulting and stealing... ...just 2 arrests. As they clearly have no intention of doing what they should be, the police must be defunded.

UK - in certain areas - seem to out-violence MAGAs Are UK citizens really that ignorant? (We have some in Denmark, too. Few, though)

Are the police in the uk fascist douche canoes like in the us?

@adambienkov.bsky.social do you think the current racial violence and unrest in the UK are a pre-cursor to an apartheid system in the UK? The complete silence from the Government seems like they're enabling this.

Ответ для The Equity & Insight Resonance

Trans Segregation is the first step on Labour's apartheid plan, that is already well underway.

Trying to invade innocent peoples houses, assaulting police officers yet no more than two arrests. Sit down in parliament square with a placard, and you’re a terrorist.

I would call them racist riots. Farage says something like, "spirited protests". Is it "spirited" to bite a police officer?

By international law, people who claim asylum must be given shelter, food, education and healthcare whilst their applications are being processed. These ignorant protesting thugs are just looking for something to vent their anger at.

There is no satisfying the rabid right wing mob.

1/There may be a reason for that. Apart from the fact Burnham is on holiday. Excoriating them just gives them the publicity they crave & make the hard right organisers seem more numerous & more important than they are. (cont)

2/There is no doubt: we don't have an immigrant crisis; we have a Nazi crisis. They are causing more trouble than the immigrants ever did.

Well. The Home Secretary is an ongoing major cause of it. So, perhaps no surprise for HER silence. As for the PM he’s on the phone to removal firms planning his move to “The North”.

Wasn’t this one of the bare minimum changes from Starmer we hoped Burnham might manage?

Only two arrested after three days of disturbances. They should all be rounded up and tried for public disorder and sentenced accordingly. They should be treated like the criminals they are and the organisers should be tried for incitement.

Government & the police must speak up and take control ‼️ This is racism. We know who's responsible. Racism & violence are both criminal. Is it, not in my backyard??? What the hell are they doing? Are they all in London arresting elderly & infirm women for protesting against Genocide in Gaza 🤮

If you think about it , Starmer had this same far-right "test riot" shortly after his term started. It seems to be a stock tactic. I'd say he passed. Burnham is failing so far.

It is awful and only 2 arrests but then again they were not peaceful and holding signs. The latitude that is given to these kind of attacks[not protest but violent bullying] Also I am appalled by the level of support given to these thugs on some other posts about it. Where is the outrage?

Absolutely this. Starmer was straight on to the Southport riots. Burnham should be doing the same. These violent, racist men, should be dealt with.

something similar near me at Sutton Bridge. We’re under sustained assault from the worst people on earth via Facebook and WhatsApp

I’m sure the police could have planted a few Palestine Action flags and have arrested the lot of them.

We are being manipulated into hating our neighbours. The same goes for Parliament, every form of legacy media & the general public, all of whom seem to be unaware of it. The British people have generally not been gullible when it comes to real threats. So this threat needs to be recognized.

... and unlike the times that the media were all over the right wing riots in recent couple of years... they havn't spread to other parts of the UK?

Not surprising from a government that vilifies immigrants. Despicable.

Because they are broadly onboard with the division, fear and distress they create.

looks like terrorism to me.

The government need to be much more vocal in calling this what it is. Andy Burnham cannot pander and placate and normalise by being silent or he will go the same way as starmer. He needs to remember this is a loud but very small minority.

How about we swap every one of those protesting for an asylum seeker, and then the protesters can go to where the asylum seekers came from, and see if they change their tune? PS. And don’t let them back.

The unwillingness to treat the threat as a threat or with the weight it deserves can be read several ways and none of them are good for the government. One such way to read it is the government tacitly supports these pogroms so they are letting them happen and doing as little as possible to stop it

These people are scum.

What I struggle to understand is why they can get away with TERRORISING people, causing damage, attacking police and civilians, destabilising democracy yet they are not proscribed as terrorists. Protesters against genocide are tried and convicted of terrorism, even if they only hold a placard.

There is a reason. It simply a disgusting one. Standing up for non whites, alleged or actual non Christians, against violent and hate filled UKNI born & ill-educated white people is a NO-GO for Labour leaders. Burnham is a coward.

I guess if you have visited Thetford or much of East Anglia as a black person or the parent of a person of colour, then none of this is surprising. The inbreds have been doing this for decades

The newly elected reform police and crime commissioner for Norfolk has also said nothing

Instead, the Burnham government comes out saying it is "sending a message to those who think you can come to this country and work illegally and disappear off the books", saying they have arrested "the highest number in British history!" This will sure help to calm things down in Thetford.

One can only conclude they tacitly support them.

at the risk of being told I am in a cult I can't help but compare the response of Starmer to riots 3 weeks into his PM role. Burnham and Mahmood looking weak and completely disconnected. Failure

Maybe the cops should knock on Rupert Lowe’s door ?

Too busy locking up pensioners who protest against genocide.

I had no idea this was even happening! Media is a disgrace and the lack of political leadership is telling.

Perhaps they're just conscious of not hyping all this up more than what it really is. Far-right scumbags, desperate to be the only story in town. By involving Burnham, the story instantly becomes headline news. Just let the police do their jobs and fast track these nuggets in front of a judge.

In sense nearly all of Thetford’s population are “immigrants”, as nearly 16,000 came to live there from London in the 50’s. Tripling the size of the town. Welcomed I’m sure .

Labour's Racist Right, along with most of our utterly vile and poisonous political-media class has been encouraging them If Burnham were planning to do something about that, he wouldn't have kept Shabana Mahmood as Home Secretary
