One other mind-expanding thought that came out of reading this: the purpose of education isn't to just teach students how to do hard things, it's to develop student's habits and thinking so that hard things become easy.
AlmondIt's pretty fascinating stuff and really shows how education is often a very unscientific, white-collar style career about KPIs and metrics and trends because teachers aren't held accountable to long term student success, only pass/fail rates. Also good context on how people actually learn to read.
