My school band cast a pretty wide net instrument-wise, but yeah, we definitely went from having A Person Who Possesses An Oboe to having An Oboe Player and it was a fun shock. (Related ontopic musical take: clarinets aren't dog whistles, dammit! Their lower ranges sound great! Use them, composers!)
