I was traveling 40 years ago. Pan Am was a wretched experience in economy. Airplanes were loud as hell for all the people not in them (and some in them, too (eg: back of a 727). Broke down way more often. Crashed more often (per million miles flown). Cost way more adjusted for inflation.
