China is racing ahead as they have people in power who know what the fuck they are talking about. We have gobshites‼️

"My job is very important" says moron.

What an embarrassing twat

in fairness "AI will be the most significant technology in human history" sounds exactly like what a greek oracle would say to a techbro, if they went to her to learn whether they should develop AI or not

Announced on a platform awash with AI slop.

Narayan is a liar, too? Well I never.

Oh here we fucking go

Ew lol.

lol, lmao even

I don’t understand how anyone can spout drivel like this

Did anyone bother to tell the poor, addled person that there's no 'artificial intelligence' going on at any point here? That we're just dealing with Large Statistical Models (LSMs, or LMMs) that can imitate humans by being trained on their outputs? Truly the age of Artificial Idiocy.

Ответ для Maya Posch

And yes, that should read 'LLM', not 'LMM', but I'm only human :)

Ответ для Maya Posch

The magic phrase was invoked ( AI ). 🙄 How dare mere mortals question the Great AI?

That would probably be the wheel, actually. The wheel enabled humans to achieve many great things over a few millennia. AI will likely enable humans to regress their cognitive abilities, imagination and skill sets to the level of dumb apes while data centres help to destroy the planet. 🤷‍♀️

Why are people that did PPE at Oxford not locked up for the benefit of society?

Ответ для Dutchscientist (the real one)

Because the society they keep benefits enormously from those charlatans

Burnhams lackeys are as intellectually empty as he is.

Ответ для Alex Merz 🇺🇸🇨🇦🇺🇦

He's Oxford PPE & Stanford MBA - the ideal target for the AI boosters. They'll roll him over.

Nope. Nope nope. Nope nope nope. How wrong can an MP be? I mean, they are all obviously experts in their appointed position.

Astoundingly stupid.

not refrigeration?

Ответ для SID Chip Vicious

While I might not call that the *most* significant, it's definitely up there. This was a great book on the subject. (though my enthusiasm for bagged salad has waned of late 😬 )

Nona Jabiznez

I'm about halfway though the audiobook Frostbite: How Refrigeration Changed Our Food, Our Planet, and Ourselves by Nicola Twilly and I will never look at bananas, bagged salad, or beef the same way again! *takes a large gulp of cold juice that has ice cubes in it* Thank you refrigeration! 💙📚

The lithium ion battery will have 100x the significance.

Your predecessors said the same about 3D printing, blockchain and VR. Have to be seen to be bandwagon jumping don't they.

Ответ для Alan B

Whither the NFT the government released?

He's a gullible idiot

Someone with a PPE BA and an MBA doesn't strike me as anyone who should be making big pronouncements on any kind of IT issues, or History either, for that matter.

Sounds like the plonker thinks AGI is already here

Nah pretty sure that's fire, then agriculture, followed by weaving.

Ответ для Mejoff

writing is certainly in there

no it’s not

Just embarrassing

Funny, that's exactly what the scientist said in Backrooms

Lol, lmao

A reliable source told me it was the monorail.

Sometimes I really fucking hate this country.

Why is there a minister for hallucinating plagiarism machines?

Ответ для Merari

Because they are planning on deploying it throughout the government.

How about food production, storing and preservation?

Ответ для Monika FBPE

Unimportant to the AI crowd. Also, they seem to believe that AI data centers should have priority when it comes to access to electricity and clean water. Priority over us.

I will trust AI when it repeatedly reaches the same Tic Tac Toe solution in the 1983 film WarGames.

Yeah, that printing press, didn’t change civilisation one bit!

The atomic bomb was fairly significant.

This has to be one of the dumbest things said in human history.

It's not even the most significant technology of the decade! I would easily put mRNA vaccines above AI

Went to the post office. Postmaster laughing embarrassedly, looking down at his iPhone. ‘Everyone okay?’ I say. ‘This morning ChatGPT asked me a question about an Arabic word I used. This afternoon he is speaking to me in Arabic, in my Egyptian accent.’ ‘Maybe it’s time to delete your App,’ I say.

American English use of adverbial "likely" suggests so.

In order: Fire Singing Painting Domesticating animals Irrigation Wheel Writing Bridges Paper Calendar Navigation Boat building Forging Sailing Gunpowder Printing Steam Petrol Rockets Computers Chips Mobile technology All far more important than scraping data.

My rather biased Dad would have added fibre optics

As big a game changer as cold fusion and perpetual motion were.

"Bananas are the cornerstone of Western civilization" says Minister for Bananas

Just wait till he hears about fire.

Ответ для herodotuspenguin

Or agriculture

Ответ для herodotuspenguin

"I mean, we've got to find out what people want from fire. You know, how they relate to it, the image... - Stick it up your nose. - Which is precisely the kind of thing we need to know, I mean, do people want fire that can be fitted nasally?" #HHGTTG

Ответ для herodotuspenguin

Or even the world wide web and smartphones

The wheel would like a word.

The most significant technology no one asked for and, it seems, very few of us want to pay for 😒

Oh fuck off it's not even most significant technology of the last five years. I'm sick to death of AI, but I think I'm more sick of the people pushing it tooth and nail. We don't fucking want AI! Fuck off already!

SLOPAGANDA

They are gonna look so silly when the whole edifice crashes and burns.

That’s precisely the kind of hyperbole that distracts from what is really important about the rapid development of AI technologies we are experiencing. Fortunately, some other parts of this LI post are significantly more meaningful.

Only someone who doesn't understand AI would say this.

It could even be as significant as the Pivot to Video

The inanity of evil.

Ancient stone tool technology has entered the chat.

The washing machine has saved more hours of labour since its invention than AI ever will

I think penicillin would probably have something to say

Ответ для chappell roan atkinson

The wheel, fertilisers, the printing press, the integrated circuit, the contraceptive pill, vaccines...

Such hyperbolic and grandiose delusions should be enough to get him sectioned. This is incredibly dangerous. This sort of all-in AI boosterism is going to get us fleeced by every scammer going. If we need an AI minister at all, the job should be to sort the wheat* from the chaff and avoid the scams.

Ответ для Daniel Rigal 🇪🇺 🦋

( * - I am very doubtful that there is *any* wheat in the generative AI stuff. I think that machine learning is the only actually useful technology element here. The rest is 99-100% nonsense. If people want to look for that possible 1% then that's fine but don't spend a lot of our money on it!)

what a genuinely stupid thing to say!

The wheel.....the wheel is the most significant technology in human history

Ответ для seamusflynnj

I'm kinda fond of sanitation

It could be said that the transistor is the most significant invention (after, the wheel, fire, etc.) Without the transistor we wouldn’t even have modern computing.

Ответ для Adam C

Technically, modern computing predates the transistor. It was just massive and power hungry (see: ENIAC).

Computers, semi-conductors…sanitation *sighs*

Where the fuck did he go to school to learn that nonsense?

Adding this to the schadenfreude list for when the bubble bursts. I'd call them a clown, but clowning's a real job that requires skill.

Did AI tell them that?

In a LinkedIn post too. Save us. Just bring the asteroid now tbh

And so the the Burnham government is exposed as true idiots barely after even having started. This is so pathetic it should be disqualifying IMMEDIATELY. A financial fraud, that will make the upcoming financial crisis more severe as all investments are written down to zero - and this ABSOLUTE IDIOT?

Ответ для davidgarciaspai

Any government that is not taking AI seriously is taking a massive risk. Russia, China, USA, Korea etc will be pouring money in to see what they can do with it. Forget business advantages for now, think about the risks. Cybersecurity, warfare. It’s 100% right to be managing it.

Ответ для davidgarciaspai

It's the same group of idiots, why did you expect Labour in 2026 to be any different?

Weird how the wittering of AI stans is functionally indistinguishable from Authentic Stupidity.

Oh will these AI fucks read am actual history or anthropology book at least once.

What a fuckwit.
