Nobody remembers that Reagan won because of "Reagan Democrats" (wypipo) And since "Reagan Dems" have controlled the party since Clinton the First, they *prefer* everyone forget that happened And it's extra weird because Obama identified as a Reagan Dem (whether he was sincere about it or not IDK)

People also forget that by 92 GHW Bush was desperate to shed the anti-Main Street, pro-Corporation, free-spending reputation Republicans had gotten under Reagan. Can you imagine Republicans talking about "kinder and gentler" conservatism today? Or promoting diverse, decentralized public welfare?

Funny in retrospect how Clinton built a whole empire, practically remade the party in his image, mostly because in 92 working class whites wanted some of that "kinder and gentler" neoliberalism they'd been promised, and... ...decided to vote for a real Dem (Clinton) instead of a fake Dem (Bush).
