Literally *every* TV family had a large house then. The Bundys in Married With Children had a nicer house than I’ve ever lived in and a running joke in that show was that Al was working the same entry level job as a shoe salesman that he got right out of high school.

It was almost cliche to point out AT THE TIME that the cast of friends lived in apartments in New York that were roughly ten times larger than anyone with their jobs could afford.

it's funny that Seinfeld, of all things, was fairly accurate---Jerry just had a decent-sized one bedroom, which a pro comedian could afford (plus he probably got it cheap in the early 80s)

It was Phoebe's (I think) grandma's rent controlled apartment. Chandler and Joey had a much more realistic apt.

The Simpsons at the time did a whole episode about how unrealistic Homer's life was, and pointed out the size of his house as a prime example!

Wish I could reply to the quote tweet that feels like it’s contradicting me but isn’t. I’m just commenting in the fact the Simpsons basically made itself like every existing sitcom because yeah…sound stages.
