@mattalt.bsky.social I have a question for you that consistently baffles me: why do you always refer to Ginza as “THE Ginza”? You’re the only person I’ve ever heard refer to it that way in English, and as for as I know in Japanese, its simply referred to as any other area in the city.

Short answer: it’s an old-fashioned way of calling it and I’m old. Longer “no-prize” answer: there are Ginza shopping arcades all over Japan so the “the” refers to the original one in Chuo-ku.
