More than Ghibli, you can really feel with Belle that they were aiming to do a Disney movie on top of the "Hosoda sphere" (a term I just learned). They even hired Jin Kim to do the heroine's design. Plus the big showpiece songs. Those on themselves make the movie, regardless of plot kerfuffling.
