Fantastic thread. I'm all for genuine critical review of films as their own kind of literary objects, but man I'm tired of people trying to make themselves look smarter by parsing Big Dumb Movies™️ like they're a peer reviewed journal article or something.
Movies SilentlyYep, the Cinema Sinification of moviegoing is truly depressing. Some genres, like the classic bedroom farce, are all about the audience recognizing tropes and conventions and merrily anticipating what comes next. I do love a "everyone hides behind the same screen and under the same bed" scene!
