The worst, most scarring thing about abuse isn’t what he does to you. It’s not even the knowledge that he would. It’s the things you do in response to ongoing threat, the humiliations folded up inside your soul long after the raging has faded to a surreal dream. The one I can’t forgive is myself.

The fact that Democrats never even raised the issue, much less seemed to care about pursuing it, not only did us and the country no favors, but feeds into the GOP’s narrative that PPE were useless theater anyway.

When being president for all Americans in all states was at least a baseline given, this would’ve seemed tantamount to a new civil war, if a cold one. Now this cynicism infects everything.

Organ donation should be the default. You should have to get a special religious waiver, and it should be easy and straightforward for you to withdraw. This sincere belief makes you ineligible for receiving, of course. Bodily autonomy for the living— including the right to suicide— not for corpses.
