The core economic pitch for Trump's mass deportations was "fewer immigrants means more jobs for Americans. Unsurprisingly, that's just not happening Instead of rising, prime-age employment rates for native-born Americans fell to the lowest levels in more than four years in data released today

Elizabeth N. Saunders🧵Can't get numb to this: in the Iran War, we have a total vacuum of leadership in the Pentagon and State Dept amid a strategic disaster of America's own making. Two pieces show how: first, Hegseth blaming Trump's bad info on near-empty missile stockpiles on a deputy. wapo.st/4hQVTF0 1/
Look, on some fundamental level, we need to be able to acknowledge that the claim Talarico is making here is basically BS. I understand WHY he’s making it. But it’s not true, playing to popular resentments in a way not totally dissimilar to Trump saying immigrants are taking your jobs.
Again, I cannot think of a single domestic Presidential initiative that was less successful than DOGE.
The Washington PostElon Musk’s U.S. DOGE Service consistently overstated its savings, taking credit for lease cancellations initiated before the group existed, a government watchdog found. DOGE also claimed contracts were terminated that had not been, the report said.
If Fauci had refused to show up, like Bannon or Navarro, that's contempt. Showing up and taking the 5th isn't contempt, it's a basic right under the Constitution.
The Washington PostBreaking news: A Senate committee voted to hold Anthony Fauci in contempt of Congress after he declined to answer questions under his Fifth Amendment right and accused the committee chairman, Sen. Rand Paul (R-Kentucky), of trying to wrongly entrap him.
This isn't law enforcement, this is thuggery.

Rhodium projects that under current policy, US GHG emissions will be 26–29% under the 2005 level in four years, driven by an influx of natural gas and renewable production. Their forecast for 2040 is 27-41% below the 2005 level. rhg.com/research/tak...
Yeah, I'm totally over-reacting to think these folks would happily throw people in camps.
Aaron RuparSen. Jim Banks refers to American citizens as "the babies of invaders" and compares them to Nazi spies and terrorists
I have zero knowledge about military stuff. So correct me if I'm wrong: Basically we spent decades building up a big stockpile of advanced weapons so we could be ready for any potential conflict with China or Russia? And then Trump used ALL OF THEM in a literally aimless war with Iran?

American factory construction continued declining in official data released today as CHIPS Act projects finish, IRA projects get cancelled, and tariffs weigh on nearly all industries Total US factory construction is down 32% from its 2024 highs and 22% over the last year alone
Trump does not "joke". He tests boundaries of what is acceptable, then his enablers downplay it.
Mark JacobThe media and MAGA like to write off Trump’s outrageous comments as “joking” when he’s actually telling us the ways he intends to ruin our country. My Stop the Presses newsletter.
Official data was released today, and after adjusting for inflation, American office construction has fallen to the lowest level since 2011 It's down nearly 60% since the onset of the pandemic and 15% over the last year alone

Trump: "Any country with windmills is a loser"
This is a problem caused (in part) by how we finance unemployment insurance. Companies are taxed as a function of their layoff rate; so companies are risk averse and unwilling to hire people who don't have an employment history. aibm.org/policy/fix-u...
the modern job market
The amount of reading you have to do on Reddit to background check any purchase over $50 is wild. Side note: you absolutely cannot trust Amazon reviews because sellers routinely give away free product and cash in exchange for five star reviews.
Jake Casella BrookinsNot really disagreeing, but a related factor is the research/decision fatigue if you do decide quality/longevity is worth the cost. I do it for kitchen equipment etc; quickly run out of spoons/finances to do it for clothing.
And this is true for all sides. If you're hoping a progressive or a moderate loses a general election because you don't want to validate that side of the coalition, you're not taking beating Republicans seriously enough. We just need to win as big a victory as possible.
