Every writer I know, and for my sins I know a lot of them, is absolutely 100% delighted for you to get their book out from your local library.

I'm one of those authors who enjoys talking about my stories, why I made certain choices, what ideas I was going for, etc. (its why all my short story collections include authors notes) But I'd hate if that became the default expectation for most writers because of concerns around AI nonsense.

Btw this is the story I withdrew from Analog after 7 months of negotiations. Thrilled to finally see it published, as I’m so proud of this one. But why take my word for it? i think people advising that authors are going to be ok because they can explain their creative choices better than a slopper are coming from a good place (and prob mostly right!). but boy do i hate the presumption that writers have to rationally talk through the minutiae of their creative choices.
