Mixed feelings about previewing a cookbook and seeing all the photos are from stock sites. Thanks for disclosing you couldn't be bothered to cook and photograph the actual recipes in the book you've published, I GUESS, but I don't trust recipes from people who can't be bothered.

Last month, I had an hour-long back-and-forth with an editor about whether a sentence required a comma. It was niche! References failed us! The only reason neither of us shrugged it off after 2 seconds is that it's a rare pleasure to engage with someone who knows how to use a fucking comma.

Sometimes I swipe too far and see the "news" page on my tablet. Sometimes it's funny in addition to infuriating. Black, white, same thing.

I felt like this the first time I quit writing. Every time you introduce yourself to a new person, there's this hard stop when you realize you can no longer say one of the two things you've been saying about yourself for the past 15 years, and the whole downward spiral runs through your mind again.

The single concrete goal of one of the candidates for a local office, in a quote given to the local paper, buried in a spew of boilerplate faith and liberty rah rah: "The office needs a facelift to make it brighter and more welcoming." Whew, good thing everyone's priorities are in order!
