It's just given there's so many games, and we have less time it's tougher to find the games that are made for our wheelhouse. That's why the recommendation algorithms will be so important going forward like Steam's personalized calendar.

If you exclusively mean AAA games then you may be right, every era adjusts the mass market big budget games to match the tastes and trends. That said, many indie games or AA games are weird and wonderful in the way AAA games would have been in that era Denshattack for example feels like Dreamcast.

Realistically there are more good games now than then, but I had time to play more, and people to talk and play with constantly then, so tough to not be special.

The Dreamcast was my favorite design from that era

I unapologetically like the PS5 design, because it actually has it's own style. Xbox Series just looks like a box, and Switch 2 just looks like Switch 1. I also like the original Xbox being a giant X though, so I appreciate unconventional.
