Knowledge would have little allure if we did not have to overcome so much shame on the way to acquiring it. -Nietzsche

😸"Altogether, the article’s characterization would better fit the evolutionary psychology of male tigers, elephants, or polar bears. As an account of human sexuality, you have the wrong species."

🔪"Falsely putting words in authors’ mouths is poor scholarship if not misrepresentation, especially words from common misconceptions & straw men posed by unscrupulous critics."

🧐"Incidentally, the evolutionary lecture did discuss the problem of blaming the victim in another portion of the lecture that was not included in the clip"

I'm suggesting that you've followed the pro-choice freewheeler sexual strategy that's in fundamental conflict with the anti-choice ring-bear strategy. So it's not surprising that you wouldn't be threatened by fellow freewheelers. (I'm using the lingo from Kurzban & Weeden's great book.)

Yeah, but if you were sowing your oats as a rock star before settling in with lawyering and single progeny, seems like you were heeding the directives of the freewheeler sexual strategy at odds with higher fertility ring-bearers your kind threatens, no?

Agree. Wish Trump had just taken firm measures to encourage and secure processes of relentless self-critique, and let the chaotic mess sort itself from within. Measures like requiring all unis having dedicated independent office of academic freedom and free speech. Formal, hands-off stuff like that.

"The contrast between what reasoning is for and what science aims at makes its effectiveness in science a puzzle rather than a triviality... The gap between the function for which a resource was shaped and the use to which science puts it is the gap to explain."

Right. I'm thinking more about people who (like me) deplore the prospect of Cofnas' controversial research & views turning out to be true, but nevertheless recognize that as a scholar (and, frankly I would say, also as a culture warrior) he's rigorous & intellectually serious. Just hope he's wrong!

"This shift in perspective allows for a reorientation of the analysis toward dynamics of mistrust and contestation, examining the complex relationship between these users & media institutions, beyond a simple explanation based on a deficit of discernment or informational skills."

"Ultimately, the real question researchers should ask is not so much: 'Why do they adhere to misinformation?' but rather 'Why are they so distrustful of traditional media?'"
