In my search for new music, at times I come across some surprises. For instance, I didn’t expect Disco Tex to look like Teller from Penn & Teller, but with an Afro.

Album of the night: The Flying Lizards - self-titled debut album. You know them from Money (That’s what I Want). This was quite something. Experimental, perhaps? Outré? Weird for weird’s sake? Dunno. Glad I experienced it, but not something I’d listen to again.

Album of the night: Eliminator by ZZ Top Holy Hell, this was huge back in the day. I bought it on cassette on a high school trip. Wore the tape out. I think I might like it more now.

Album of the night - Meat is Murder by The Smiths Very cohesive sound. I can see where anyone who likes The Smiths would love The Smiths.

Winter’s coming.

Album of the night - Blow in the Wind by Me First and the Gimme Gimmes. Classic 60s era rock with punk arrangements. Just banger after banger after banger.

Jayne loves tufted vetch - that little purple flower on a vine that is everywhere in midsummer. Here, she’s engaged in rather a one-sided tug of war with my wife.

Album of the night: Rise by Hollywood Vampires. Core of this group is Alice Cooper, Joe Perry & Johnny Depp, and they rock. I 100% guarantee if they toured today to support this album from 2015, they would be the best act on the road this year.

Album of the night - ZZ Top’s First Album. First off - kudos on telling us all we need to know in the album title. Very mature sound for a debut album. Bluesy rock. Later on, one of their songs was reviewed as “unadulterated filth”. They’re not hiding things with some of the songs here, either.

Album of the night: Ray Davies - See my Friends The critics didn’t like it, but I found it very enjoyable. “You Really Got Me”, with Metallica? Yes, please! Also, Billy Corgan guesting on “All Day and All of the Night/Destroyer” works better than you’d think.

Winter’s coming. By which, I mean Jayne’s winter hay arrived today.

I replaced the broken drive belt (pictured) on my zero turn mower. The diagram really undersells the placement of the belt. I apparently now have enough credits for a degree in lawnmower proctology.

Oh my !! Just a bit more than 2:00 in.

Album of the night: Laila Come Home by Gorillaz and Spacemonkeyz Gorillaz’ self-titled album remixed in a combination of dub and reggae. Very cool vibe for a warm summer Saturday evening.

Album of the Night Oar by Skip Spence A broken man who spent time institutionalized for threatening his (former) band mates with an axe. He plays all instruments on the album. Haunting & very very good. The stereotype of the brooding young man strumming & singing? This is who they want to be.

“Boy, was it hot today.” “How hot was it?” “I saw Batman chasing the Joker and they were both walking.” “Hey-ohh!”
