Honestly, a starter pack is a good idea just on its own... I may need to work one up myself!

The whole crew is full of people much smarter than I am! There’s a reason the POV character is the diplomat, not the lead scientist lol

He keeps trying to be like his loving big brother, but watching his mother give up on living and then having to fend for himself leaves him feeling unlovable and scared. He will press himself into whatever shape he needs to be to survive or be liked: the perfect mold for a human-made dragon

Once I knew that he lost his brother (who raised him) before he was a teenager, I also knew he’d been a street urchin young enough to develop unhealthy coping mechanisms. Making him a sweetheart but a defensive liar made perfect sense from there.

#awesomecharacters I’d want to sit at Rikaa’s feet and let him tell me dragon history as he lived it. He remembers the old clan wars, the last white dragons, the rise of humanity as the dominant military force in the world. I could sit there and listen to a first-person account for hours!

Okay but I do want that lesson in pest control I was serious about that 😂

There are definitely scholars of history and survivors who do their best to pass on the stories of what used to be. But some lost civilizations lie within the dangerous Golden Dusk, and their stories have rapidly vanished

To Islana, who grew up by a broken Door her family used to tend, those old connections are to be revered and remembered. To the princess she later meets, the old world simply doesn’t matter as much as surviving the new (a mountain sprang up and threw her kingdom into famine thru rain shadow effect)

Ava herself doesn’t know, but she suspects her senses are heightened and thinks she might have claws. But Jo isn’t going to confirm anything!

I love when that happens! And then you feel like “omg I DO know what I’m doing” 😂

Right now, it’s very Gothic poetry, but she has been secretly teaching herself how to draw hidden away in her room. If I do a sequel, I’d love to bring that in somehow, because she stayed on the periphery in the book itself even though shes got So much going on in my head!

I’m the forever DM of the friend group, so I do a lot of one-shots for get togethers. It’s really helped my world building to have to come up with descriptions on the spot!

I'm a big fan of the awards shows haha. But I do also like when we get to put our characters in new settings, ala "if the characters are going on a picnic, who's bringing what?" It's fun to write little vignettes!
