I would love to read more about how much more stuff Americans have now than we used to. I wonder (assume?) even tho we move professions if not house more than boomers that avg + median stuff-owning-volume is markedly higher than boomers
Kendra "Gloom is My Beat" Pierre-LouisI think it's a little bit of both - I think a lot of us are socialized to want lots of stuff from an early age. Think about the goody bags at birthday parties and swag bags at conferences. And unless something really forces you to confront your consumption (money for example) you don't. /1
This is so good!!!!
jessamynI've mentioned in the past that I sponsored a local female race car driver and put pro-library messages on the car. They did a "pit party" where kids could come through, see the cars, etc. Andrea got book stickers made so all the kids could sign her car. Truly some of my best library outreach work.
Side quest: My dad ILL'd a fiction read (his PL is not part of a consortium 😭) and I found great pleasure in telling him that every ILL costs money and that's his tax dollars at work (thankfully he would not repeat this rudely to a library worker when something goes sideways)
Lisa RabeySome titles are from academic pubs, which means they are overpriced. (Don't get me started on THIS topic.) Check your local library, & if they don't have the title, use interlibrary loan. What is ILL? You request a title from another library, it's sent to your home library. Tada! You have the book.

Tressie McMillan CottomI’m not a doctor. I know nothing. Also? Most of the other problems are because of your feet. Your neck hurt? Your feet. Your hip hikes? It’s your feet. Your shoulder pulls? Your feet. Your jaw pops. Yep, it’s your feet. Maybe. Allegedly.
