The thing about burrito discourse is that broadly people under 40 have decided the economy does not provide the living standard they want, on everything from housing to gas to the price of going out. Whether or not this is an irrational belief is irrelevant, somebody has to successfully address it.

Ignore the extremely Bluesky replies that imply you don't care about women, trans people etc. These "places people live in movies and TV shows" are real places where millions of people actually live—and are sources of net domestic out-migration, and when you ask people why, they mostly say cost.

Is Las Vegas the most affordable blue city in the country? Or Phoenix? They may be more purplish but are still affordable if you are fine with 50-70 year old homes.

So far the out-migration has not triggered any reduction in demand. In places like NYC and Silicon Valley, demand actually increasing at even more rapid pace. Supply will always lag due to time to construct new housing in America, even when everything goes right.
