Hey! If you were published at Daily Science Fiction, be aware that a site called Science Fiction Weekly has stolen the entire story database & posted it on their site. All of my DSF stories are there without my permission. sciencefictionweekly.com

Good work team

Huzzah

I sold Daily Science Fiction 28 stories. Safari won't take me to the link you posted. BIG HUGE SIGH. Have we contacted SFWA? Authors' Guild?

Ответ для Nina Kiriki Hoffman

The community action got the site taken down! I'm aware of people contacting SFWA, Writer Beware, and Authors' Guild. Plus, some of the impacted authors are actually lawyers, so...

Huh. They claim to only be publishing with author consent. So much for that.

Ответ для John P. Murphy

Yeah, they don't accept AI stories, they just steal the old fashioned way.

Ответ для Beth Cato

There is a 0% chance this entire site isn't made by Claude.

Ответ для ellie maybe 🌑

One thing I can't find on other science fiction sites is stories that are...finished

Ответ для ellie maybe 🌑

That made me laugh. Thank you.

Ответ для Beth Cato

I help where I can :)

Their 'most recent' seems to be 2023, so no telling how long this has been going on...

UGH.

Good to know. I'll pass it along.

Domain registrant contact details are obscured. The address is for the Central Bank of Iceland.

Ответ для Brent Baldwin

The registrar is NameCheap and their abuse contact is abuse@namecheap.com.

yeah, though Cloudflare apparently is just passing those requests on to the hosting company (which is not necessarily the registrar)

Ответ для Patrick Johanneson 🚀 🇨🇦

as of right now, cloudflare are still showing as the DNS servers on the whois record, but are also not returning any IP addresses for the domain, so /someone/ has done /something/

@andrewhickey.500songs.com I remember you had a story here, might want to check in on this.

Are you a member of the Authors Guild? Their legal department works on similar issues. @authorsguild.org

Yep. There's my story - and no consent asked for or given.

Ответ для Stephen Persing

Oh, including the author bio containing a link to a blog site that no longer exists. LOL

Ответ для Stephen Persing

And the nonfunctional "close author bio" text.

Sue the f*ckers.

I sent them an invoice. btw, if anyone finds the owner of the site, let me know. I want to talk (New Jersey vernacular) with them...

Ответ для Caias Ward

If you hear anything back, pls tag me? I’d like to know…

Grrrr. Mine is there, and I certainly didn’t give permission. @joannechocolat.bsky.social any ideas with your contracts expertise hat on? Also @societyofauthors.bsky.social

Ответ для Dr Kat Day (she/her) 🌒

Ugh. Definitely worth talking to SoA’s legal advisors on this.

Ответ для Joanne Harris

That's what Union dues are for

.... Okay so i know reporting things to ICE is a REALLY Bad Look right now but for some reason copyright infringement domains are handled by their computer crimes unit under operation in our sites

hey hey @akivamcohen.bsky.social this seems potentially solvable?

According to their About page, it is with the author's consent. I hate the idea of stories being published without the author's say-so, but there may be other reasons why you have not been contacted. Do keep us apprised of the situation. I think all of us writers would like to know more.

Ответ для Lark LaTroy

Most authors are easy to contact. Anyone who has a traditional publisher can be contacted via the publisher. Many have agents. Those currently publishing are mostly active on social media possibly Patreon, or their own blog If none of the authors in this thread were contacted, it was deliberate

Ответ для Word_Geek

I mean, if you wanted, you could literally contact some of the authors societies for the genre, and ask them to put out the word/run an ad Any good faith org wishing to republish an authors works would not just do it and wait until the authors notice

Ответ для Lark LaTroy

What do you think consent is? If they tried and failed to reach the authors (which I don't believe for a minute), then they didn't get their permission to publish the work.

Who needs to go to the SFW website when you can probably just ask an LLM to regurgitate the entirety of those creative works from their training set .... 😠

Ответ для Ryan Radecki MD MS

I really don’t get the drive to replace human writers striving for excellence with a statistical engine turning out barely adequate prose.

Note that searching by name does not work. Search for a title or by keyword, and then you can click on the author name to find the whole list.

Ответ для Beth Cato

What offends me even more than the theft of my stories is that they STOLE THE STORIES OF A DEAD FRIEND. Probably several dead friends. Melissa Mead, you're gone but we remember you, and we will fight for you.

Ответ для Beth Cato

I didn't know her personally but remember when she passed :'( this is so outrageous!

Ответ для Beth Cato

Jon Lasser’s work is in there too. Absolutely infuriating.

Ответ для Aimee Ogden

GRRRRRRR.

Ответ для Beth Cato

Eugie Foster's work is there, too. GRRRRRRRRRR.

Oh God damn it

Welp. Anything that can be done about it?

Oh no!! That’s not okay.

do you mind if I read?

Ответ для fbbbb

I would bet money the answer would be “Yes I would mind. Don’t patronize those thieves!”

What a sweeping, careless, arrogant thing to do. Did they respond to you when you got in touch, as they invite the authors whose work they have put up without consent to do?

Ответ для Kate Macdonald 📚 🧶

There is no contact information on the website, so the only recourse seems to be sending a notice through their webhost X(

Ответ для Samantha (Sam) Mills

YEEEEP seriously *such* a bad faith operation

Ответ для Kate Macdonald 📚 🧶

So they reckon that "consent" is being able to request a story is removed. Great.

Ответ для Alex Harford

There was actually no means of contact beyond registering on the site and submitting a story, so there was not even a proper manner of request.

Ответ для Beth Cato

Suggesting a careful, planned avoidance of responsibility. I am sorry that your work (and that of others!) Has been pirated.

Oh NOOOOO!
