I think there does come a level of specificity at which it's possible to find a thing (or, often, a combination of several specific things) that no one has done yet, but I have also encountered a lot of people asserting that they're doing something unique when they're absolutely not. Check first!

"Why is nobody talking about this" "Why don't people do this anymore" "Why is there no media about xyz" there are people doing incredible things everywhere you look but you have to stop relying on algorithms and seek out community for yourself.

I think my book might be the first queer interfaith YA romance featuring a Christian protagonist and a Jewish love interest who are both deeply involved in their faith communities, both of which are actively queer-affirming. It's a specific combination of several things that don't often go together!

If someone else has also written that, I'd love to read it. But all too often, I see people saying things like, "There are only six pieces of media with asexual characters and I've already consumed all of them," or "I want to do labor organizing in higher ed because no one else is doing it." Check!
