This is an unnecessarily dichotomous way to view young people.
At school the both have and lack a range of skills / knowledge to varying degrees.
This rhetoric is clumsy at best.
At what age does a young person identify / become identified as one with technical skill vs one with academic skill?
So many technical skills have an academic underpinning.
So much academic knowledge is redundant with technical skill.
I (cautiously) welcome the move to a more devolved democracy. With this comes the opportunity to review curriculum through a local / national / world lens .
Most existing curriculum areas are suited to such a lens (some more than others)
I suspect there is a change required to give it best chance
That change would be in PHSCE curriculum time. This is where much of the democracy and careers education already lies.
Opportunity here to develop changes to democracy hand in hand with curriculum.
