Why do companies do this? They must know how awful this looks. Like beyond bad PR.

They do it because they know they can get away with it. That no matter how bad it looks, most people will never actually see the story and many who do will have forgotten by the time they release their next film... Hell, probably before this one even hits streaming. There are no consequences.

Who cares about PR? Disney owns most of the entertainment industry. What are you going to do? Not to take the kids to the latest Disney movie? This how monopolies work.

Actually, no. I won't be giving Disney any more money. It's actually quite easy to do too. I simply do not buy anything they produce.

You can watch dreamworks or indie or anything else that is just not disney/disney affiliated.

If the company is publicly traded layoffs are a Guaranteed stock boost. Investors love not paying labor.
