Pixar receives a $26.2 Million Tax credit to keep film jobs in CA, and immediately lays off 10% of its work force, after making over a billion from Toy Story 5, the highest-grossing film of 2026.

Pixar's Layoffs Came Days After Receiving a $26 Million Tax Credit. So I Wrote California Officials.State tax incentives should create and retain jobs for Californians, not subsidize corporate layoffs.amidamidi.substack.com

and they wonder why rhetoric against elites is heating up

Hey @governor.ca.gov, care to explain?

Yo ho ho

Well they stayed in CA. Any talk of publishing these ghouls for their actions is moot unless we subordinate capital's interests to the working class interest.

It was only about the money....

Is that embezzlement or fraud? Because that’s money not being used for its assigned purpose.

Fraud.

The greatest expense to any company is not the workers who do their jobs every day helping the company succeed. It's the parasitic investors looking to suck the company dry before moving on to the next host.

Lots of good people losing their jobs. I lost my job in this industry long ago. P.S. Toy Story 3 should've been the end of the franchise. But stopping at perfection wouldn't make the c-suite executives more money.

I imagine any attempt to fine or punish them would be vetoed or blocked by Gavin.

Piracy targeting content from this kind of asshole company is both moral and beautiful.

Me when the corporation lies for financial gain 😮😮😮😮😮😮😮

My first thought was "animation studios pretty routinely hire people for one project. Are these layoffs just the normal end-of-project departures?" A: No they are not. That is routine, but it's not how Pixar has ever operated.

Also: once upon a time, it was not normal for big animation studios to hire people for one project and then fire them all

@adamschiff.com

They should give that money back executive pay packages were not the reason for the credit.

But how else are they supposed to pay their impoverished executives? 😢

Two types of Basket Of Deplorables: • Dumbfucks who actually believed Trump's shit. • Tripple digit millionaires who just wanted the loose regs/tax breaks.

exactly 💯

The Mouse is just slashing its workforce these days, yikes. They made $12B in income before taxes in FY25 btw. 🤦‍♂️

According to the article, the revenue for Disney is actually $94 billion in its most recent fiscal year.

Is every corporation a scumbag grifter?

Ответ для Shore Patrol

Yes.

Are we quite certain that Pixar is not attempting to compete with video game makers on the matter of layoffs?

It looks good on paper no matter the industry

Why do companies do this? They must know how awful this looks. Like beyond bad PR.

Ответ для ✨️Alexa the Vampire Lover✨️

What are the long term effects, really? Or immediate effects, for that matter? None. Zero. They know this and behave accordingly.

Ответ для ✨️Alexa the Vampire Lover✨️

They do it because they know they can get away with it. That no matter how bad it looks, most people will never actually see the story and many who do will have forgotten by the time they release their next film... Hell, probably before this one even hits streaming. There are no consequences.

Ответ для ✨️Alexa the Vampire Lover✨️

If the company is publicly traded layoffs are a Guaranteed stock boost. Investors love not paying labor.

Ответ для ✨️Alexa the Vampire Lover✨️

Who cares about PR? Disney owns most of the entertainment industry. What are you going to do? Not to take the kids to the latest Disney movie? This how monopolies work.

to Pixar

I'm glad you wrote and complained, because this is ridiculous!

No consequences anymore

Not to take away from Disney being ran by scumbags but surely I'm not the only one who finds it complete bullshit that the government can just reward companies if they force animators to move, right? Why do we have to throw our own lives away just so a company can make more money in the first place?

There is literally no positive incentive that can keep companies from firing people to juice the short-term numbers

The culture of treating people as disposable tissues in order to make the line on a graph go up just a tiny bit more is one of the worst ones as of recent.

I know that “business men” and businesses are often immoral and greedy, but holy shit. Why can’t these ppl be happy to produce awesome stuff that makes billions of ppl happy and employs millions, while also being millionaires and billionaires? Like you can have anything you want, but you’re a pos.

Genuine question: Have things become more corrupt, or are we just hearing about it more at the moment? Seems like hardly an hour goes by now without me hearing of some huge company paying massive bonuses to their c-suites while laying off the people who did the work

Ответ для Will N Rogers

sadly things are becoming publicly corrupt! a lot of us who were in school and even passionately studied about studios we dreamed of working for saw very early how fucked up the ethics of these big studios are 💀 And we get told "then you arent built for the industry don't do art" as if thats good.

Ответ для Will N Rogers

Here in the US I am pretty sure things are becoming massively more corrupt. The corrupt President and the six corrupt members of the Supreme Court are leading the way and a bunch of people who used to be scared to crime in public are suddenly much less scared.

Metallica-Kill Em All (1983)

"we just got a shitload of money, now let's fire a bunch of our staff" is the kind of thing that should be followed quickly by a public hanging

Any company receiving taxpayer bailouts or tax cuts in the same year as they layoff workers should forfeit bailouts and tax cuts for the next 10yrs and be forced to pay back the same within 3 years.
